Essential Responsibilities

• Complete all required training and maintain all required certifications for security protection.
• Respond to on-site emergencies.
• Maintain effective campus access controls.
• Maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license (permitting operation in New York State).
• Maintain all licenses and certifications required under applicable laws to carry out Security Officer duties.
• Operate computers and equipment to write reports, send/receive email, use surveillance and intrusion detection systems, access control platforms, protection devices, fire protection and patrol reporting systems.
• Detect, deter, and report suspicious activity or findings.
• Respond to emergency incidents (e.g., fire, spills, medical, motor vehicle accidents, water breaks, odors, floods).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED.
• Current valid State of New York Security Guard License (must have completed the 16-hour course).
• Ability to work 2nd Shift (2:00 PM – 10:00 PM).

Eligibility Requirements

• Background check and drug screen; driving record check required due to operation of GE-owned or leased vehicles.
• Proficiency with computer and security equipment to perform responsibilities listed above.
• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods; able to climb and descend stairs; comfortable with environmental elements.
• Ability to follow directions clearly and efficiently.

Desired Characteristics

• Associate degree in criminal justice, security, or related field.
• Experience in law enforcement, military, or industrial security.
• First Aid / AED / CPR certification; trained in incipient firefighting techniques.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface with employees, contractors, visitors, and vendors.
• Experience with 2-way radio; call taking / dispatching in emergency settings.
• Experience in conducting minor criminal investigations and vehicle accident investigations.
• Proficiency in written reports and English communication; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
