Overview
Campus Security Officer position with responsibilities focused on protection, safety, and security operations on campus.
Responsibilities
- Complete all required training and maintain all required certification(s) for all aspects of security protection
- Respond to on-site emergencies
- Maintain effective campus access controls
- Continuously maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license (permitting operation in New York State)
- Continuously maintain all licenses, certifications and other authorizations required under applicable laws, rules and regulations (federal, state, local and other) to carry out the duties of Security Officer
- Operate computers and other equipment to the extent but not limited to writing reports, sending/receiving email communications, operation computer-based surveillance and intrusion detection systems, access control platforms, protection devices, fire protection and suppression platforms and patrol tour reporting systems
- Detect, deter and report suspicious activity or findings
- Respond to emergency incidents including but not limited to fire, spills, medical, motor vehicle accidents, water breaks, odors, floods
Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED
- Current valid State of New York Security Guard License (must have completed the 16-hour course)
- Ability to work 3rd Shift (10pm – 6am)
Eligibility Requirements
- In addition to background check and drug screen, as the position requires operation of a GE owned or leased/rented vehicle for company business a driving record check must also be completed
- Have sufficient proficiency with computer and other equipment to appropriately operate equipment associated with their responsibilities including but not limited to writing reports, sending/receiving email communications, operation computer-based surveillance and intrusion detection systems, access control platforms, protection devices, fire protection and suppression platforms and patrol tour reporting systems
- Capable and willing to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time
- Able and willing to climb and descend stairs
- Be able to spend extensive time exposed to environmental elements
- Ability to clearly and efficiently follow direction
Desired Characteristics
- Associate degree in criminal justice, Security, or other criminal justice discipline from an accredited college or university
- Previous law enforcement, military or industrial security experience
- First Aid / AED / CPR certification
- Trained in incipient firefighting techniques
- Interpersonal skills to appropriately interface with employees, contractors, visitors, customers, delivery drivers, etc.
- Experience with 2-way radio
- Call taking / dispatching experience in an emergency and service-related environment
- Experience in conducting minor criminal investigations
- Experience in conducting Motor Vehicle Accident Investigations (Basic Level)
- Ability and willingness to complete written reports accurately
- Ability to willingness to communicate effectively in English in all oral and written communications
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook
- Excellent communication skills, interpersonal, oral and written
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly rate for this position is $25.71 hr. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. Date expected to close from career site on 8/1/25 or when suitable candidate identified. The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
