This position is located in Detroit, Michigan.

Overview

Serve as a Human Resources Assistant within the United States Attorney’s Office – Eastern District of Michigan. The work involves providing routine technical assistance and processing support to Human Resources specialists who provide recruitment and placement, classification, employee relations, employee benefits, personnel action processing and other related services.

Duties

  • Screening requests, documents, and reports for completeness and accuracy.
  • Receiving personnel actions and determining processing data to include the nature of action and authority codes, remarks and other requirements based on the nature of the action.
  • Assisting in recruitment activities by verifying veterans’ preference, coordinating entrance on duty and release dates, and processing pre-appointment security packets.
  • Providing office automation support.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: GS06: Applicants must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in Federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as: using automated systems for tracking the status of work-related processes; entering data into one or more computer systems; obtaining needed information from files or general reference sources; providing office automation support (e.g. creating, copying, editing, storing, retrieving a variety of documents); or maintaining administrative files or records.

GS07: Applicants must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in Federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as: briefing new hires on entitlements; providing customer support to internal and external customers; providing office automation support (e.g. creating, copying, editing, storing, retrieving a variety of documents); using computers and software programs in an office environment to extract, revise, or sort information from files, records, or databases; or researching regulations, policies, and/or personnel guidance.

Additional information

Payment of relocation expenses will not be authorized.
