Overview
Technology Support Specialist role within the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) in the Information Technology (IT) department, Division: Agency Operations, Department: Information Technology. The position supports the Commission's systems, applications, and end-user technology needs, and contributes to reliable technology services across the agency.
Responsibilities
- Provide support across key IT functions, including troubleshooting hardware and software, installing and configuring equipment, managing updates, and responding to helpdesk tickets.
- Assist with system evaluations, documentation, and coordination with external partners such as the Department of Information Resources (DIR).
- Contribute to a collaborative IT team focused on system reliability, responsive customer support, and high-quality service throughout the agency.
Qualifications
The following minimum qualifications apply for IT Support Specialist III and IV levels; additional qualifications may be substituted as noted.
- IT Support Specialist III – Associate\'s degree with major coursework in information technology, computer networking, or a related field, and one (1) year full-time IT helpdesk and desk support experience. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
- IT Support Specialist IV – Associate\'s degree with major coursework in information technology, computer networking, or a related field, and a minimum of three (3) years full-time IT helpdesk and desktop support experience. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor\'s degree with major coursework in information technology, computer networking or a related field.
- Experience with TeamDynamix or similar IT service management and ticketing tools.
- Experience providing IT helpdesk and desktop support in a state government agency or public-sector environment.
Work Schedule
The PUCT operates on a standard schedule, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternative work schedules may be requested in accordance with the agency policy. Telecommuting approvals are at management discretion based on business needs. New hires may become eligible to telecommute after 30 to 90 days of employment, subject to supervisor approval and office presence requirements for training or performance needs.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications. Note: The salary for ERS retirees or non-contributing members may be 6% less than the recommended salary.
