About The Position Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1.5 years in Step Down or Progressive Care Unit License: Active nursing license in any state Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Ventilator experience - Experience with EPIC charting - Ability to read and interpret EKG strips - Experience with patient ratios of 1:5 Description: The registered nurse will work in a step down unit focusing on patient populations including COPD, CHF, pneumonia, flu, sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and post-COVID recovery. Responsibilities include providing care for ventilated patients and managing various intravenous drips. The unit is currently trialing a team nursing approach where nurses collaborate with a patient care technician to enhance patient care and reduce workload. Patient ratios are targeted at 1:4 but may reach up to 1:5 or 1:6. Candidates must complete an online EKG tele competency assessment prior to starting the assignment. Floating may be required within designated specialty clusters. The role requires working every other weekend and holiday. Travelers may be subject to shift cancellations due to low census. This position entails caring for a complex patient population, utilizing advanced support from respiratory therapy and other interdisciplinary teams. Candidates should bring skills in administering medication, managing cardiac drips, and working effectively in a high-acuity environment. The use of specialized equipment such as tracheostomy tubes, CPAP/BIPAP, and advanced monitoring is integral to the role. Teamwork and communication are essential in providing the best possible care to patients. References are not required for this position. Local candidates are not eligible for this role.
