We are seeking an experienced and motivated

Project Engineer

to join our construction team in Long Beach, CA. This role is ideal for candidates with a background in

marine construction

or

heavy civil infrastructure projects

who thrive in fast-paced, field-oriented environments. The Project Engineer will play a critical role in supporting project delivery, providing technical expertise, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This position requires a proactive professional who is comfortable working on complex marine and infrastructure projects, including

Collaborate with superintendents and foremen to plan and execute daily project activities. Monitor field operations to ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, USACE, and company safety protocols. Lead daily and weekly safety meetings; prepare safety documentation and enforce adherence. Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials to meet production and scheduling requirements. Technical & Engineering Duties

Perform progress surveys, create cross-sections, and generate bathymetry maps. Provide technical layout and surveying support to crews in the field. Maintain accurate documentation for project compliance, as-built drawings, and quality control records. Assist in evaluating design drawings and specifications to identify discrepancies or conflicts. Project Controls & Reporting

Track and record daily production quantities, equipment usage, and labor hours. Prepare reports, progress photos, and updates for management and client stakeholders. Assist in scheduling activities, monitoring progress, and addressing delays. Support contract administration, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and pay applications. Budgeting & Cost Management

Support project managers with cost tracking, forecasting, and reconciliation. Document and analyze productivity metrics to ensure alignment with budget goals. Collaborate with project leadership to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or quality. Vendor & Client Coordination

Communicate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials. Act as a liaison between field crews, project management, and client representatives. Support client and regulatory inspections, ensuring all requirements are met. Additional Expectations

Flexibility to travel for out-of-town projects; lodging and accommodations provided. Availability to work weekends or extended hours as project schedules require. Contribute to company initiatives by providing feedback and supporting continuous improvement. Candidate Requirements

Required

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline. 5+ years of experience in marine or heavy civil construction. Proven ability to enforce safety compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and USACE standards. Strong proficiency with AutoCAD and Bluebeam. Hands-on experience with construction documentation: RFIs, submittals, change orders, progress payments, and contracts. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact across all levels of the organization. Must possess or be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential). Preferred

Prior experience on USACE projects and familiarity with EM 385-1-1 requirements. EM 385-1-1 training (SSHO or QC Manager certification a plus). Experience with hydrographic and topographic surveying. Knowledge of Hypack for marine surveying. Familiarity with HeavyBid estimating software. Physical Demands

This Position Requires The Ability To Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, often near or on marine equipment. Walk, bend, squat, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
