Department. Eligible for a Sign-On Bonus up to $10,000 and Relocation Assistance. The Heart and Vascular Center at UChicago Medicine specializes in diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart conditions and heart disease. Our team includes leaders in cardiology, cardiac surgery, robotic surgery, vascular surgery and research. This role provides comprehensive direct patient care management in the hospital setting for cardiovascular surgery patients with diverse needs including complex valve disease, coronary artery disease, aorta disorders and advanced heart failure requiring transplant or LVAD. The APP uses advanced assessment skills and clinical therapeutics to evaluate, diagnose and manage critically ill patients; orders and interprets diagnostic tests, prescribes pharmacological agents, maintains continuity of patient care, and follows up on progress. Responsibilities
Differentiates normal and abnormal variations for all body systems. Assesses patient and family adaptation, coping skills and the need for crisis or other intervention. Interprets diagnostic tests and analyzes data to inform clinical judgments and care plans. Develops problem lists with differential diagnoses and creates plans of care in collaboration with patients, families and the health care team. Plans and implements pharmacological therapies and initiates referrals as needed. Performs routine diagnostic and therapeutic techniques per established protocols for nurse practitioners. Provides patient education and ensures continuity of care, discharge planning and follow-up. Maintains information sharing with unit staff, medical staff and hospital personnel. Demonstrates knowledge of patient care protocols for neonatal to geriatric populations. Role Summary
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is an APP responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management, managing a caseload with autonomous assessment, diagnosis and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The role includes family support, teaching, staff education, consultation and research. Provides inpatient care in the cardiac surgery ICU and stepdown units, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. Education and Experience Requirements
Nurse Practitioner
– Education: Advanced degree from an accredited nursing school; licensure in Illinois as an APN by start date; current Registered Nurse license; AANC certification as ACNP and/or ANP-BC; minimum two years of critical care nursing experience preferred. Physician Assistant
– Education: Accredited PA program; Licensure: NCCPA certification; Illinois licensure/registration; ICU certification; ICU experience preferred. Position Details
