Lumilens
About Lumilens
We’re a well-funded startup backed by Mayfield and led by veterans who’ve built and scaled some of the most transformative technologies in the industry. At Lumilens, we’re developing high-speed photonics products purpose-built to power the future of AI infrastructure and high-performance computing.
This isn’t incremental innovation, it’s a ground-floor opportunity to rethink the optical layer from the silicon up. You’ll work alongside a team of world-class engineers solving some of the hardest challenges in scaling optical systems. Every line of code, every design decision, every breakthrough you help deliver will shape the infrastructure of tomorrow.
If you're looking for mission, momentum, and the chance to make an outsized impact, jump on the rocket ship. We’re just getting started.
About The Role – Optical Product Test Engineer
As an Optical Product Test Engineer, you will play a critical role in validating and ensuring the quality of Lumilens’ photonic components, modules, and systems. This role blends hands-on production testing with test development and reporting, supporting both new product introduction (NPI) and volume manufacturing. You’ll work closely with optical design, hardware, and manufacturing teams to perform calibration, characterization, and troubleshooting of next-generation photonics technologies that will power tomorrow’s AI and HPC infrastructure. Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Perform characterization and testing of fiber optic components and modules Analyze test results to ensure compliance with performance specifications and quality standards Maintain accurate, detailed records of test procedures and outcomes Generate comprehensive test reports for internal and external stakeholders Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis to resolve product issues Design, plan, and conduct optical and fiber testing on components, devices, and systems Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support NPI and manufacturing ramp Education & Experience
BS or MS in Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related technical field 8+ years of industry experience in optical or fiber component testing preferred Prior exposure to photonics, telecom, or high-speed networking systems is a plus Skills
Hands-on experience with optical test instruments (e.g., optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, polarization controllers, bit-error-rate testers) Familiarity with communication interfaces and test automation tools Ability to write or adapt scripts for automation (Python, LabVIEW, Visual Basic; Shell scripting a plus) Strong analytical skills to interpret complex test data and identify patterns or anomalies Resourceful problem-solver with ability to apply knowledge creatively to test challenges Capable of managing multiple test projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment Strong communication and documentation skills; able to train and mentor peers when needed What we offer
Competitive salary commensurate with experience Comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance Professional development and certification opportunities Access to cutting-edge optical/photonics test environments and tools A collaborative, cross-functional team dedicated to solving some of the hardest challenges in photonics Equal opportunity employer: All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, gender, identity, orientation, veteran status, disability, or any other legally protected status
