Director, Business Development and Capture - Federal Law Enforcement

– This role focuses on growing Akima's client base in the Emerging Markets Group (EMG) across the full business development lifecycle: identification, capture management, solutions development, proposal writing/review, and post-award handoff. The base pay range is $195,000.00/yr – $200,000.00/yr. This position is remote with preference for candidates located near Akima offices in Herndon, VA; Tampa, FL; Huntsville, AL; Phoenix, AZ; or Colorado Springs, CO. The Director will pursue differentiated IT and technology solutions (cyber, cloud engineering), software development, digital automation (RPA, AI, ML), and related mission support services for Federal Law Enforcement agencies. You will report to the Vice President of Business Development for EMG and lead efforts to expand Akima's client base, retain expiring programs, penetrate new markets, and win new business. Responsibilities

Build and maintain a pipeline of opportunities aligning with EMG's growth markets. Lead new business pursuits across the BD lifecycle—from client engagement through capture and proposal submission—focusing on technology solutions that leverage Akima's full portfolio. Establish, nurture, and expand relationships with existing and prospective customers, internal stakeholders, industry partners, and market influencers. Develop and execute customer call plans, assess the competitive landscape, and implement differentiated win strategies. Represent Akima at industry groups, conferences, and networking events. Respond to government market research inquiries (e.g., RFIs, Sources Sought). Shape acquisition strategies using client relationships, company capabilities, white papers, partners, and contracting vehicles. Lead internal gate reviews, develop capture strategies, and prepare business cases for new opportunities. Support negotiation of teaming agreements and contract discussions. Collaborate with technical, program, and proposal teams to design, review, and publish proposal responses; contribute to proposal development (writing, reviewing, color team). Ensure pipeline accuracy, including probability of win assessments and revenue projections. Work with company leaders to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and drive growth. Drive growth on Akima's FBI ITSSS-2 BPA by identifying task order opportunities and leading targeted capture and proposal efforts. Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree; Master's preferred, in a relevant discipline. Experience: 10–15 years of progressive BD experience in Federal contracting, with some 8(a) or small business exposure. Proven Wins: Track record of winning IT/technology solutions or mission support contracts with Federal agencies; at least three wins in the last three years, each with minimum value of $25M. Domain Knowledge: Deep experience in Federal IT/technology solutions, software development, digital automation, and mission support services; familiarity with investigative/enforcement/intelligence capabilities and metadata analysis. Market Knowledge: Established relationships with DOJ and related agencies. Acquisition Expertise: Knowledge of Federal procurement processes and current trends. Strategic Growth: Experience in market analysis, strategic planning, and capture leading to major contracts. Leadership: Ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and manage multiple captures under tight deadlines. Skills: Excellent communication, presentation, and proposal writing; strong business acumen. Attributes: Detail-oriented, adaptable, results-driven, ethical. Technical Proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Travel: Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
