Overview
Senior Engineer - Transmission Line Underground at ComEd. This role focuses on the planning, design, and execution of underground transmission line projects, including coordination with internal teams and external partners. Primary Purpose
The Senior Engineer - Transmission Line Underground develops and/or leads teams in studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, performance assessments, integrated systems analysis, cost estimates, budgets, and related activities for the planning, design, licensing, construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of Exelon’s electric facilities. Provides consultation and recommendations to the Company and other units or customers based on studies of systems, processes, equipment, vehicles or facilities. Reviews financial data from budgets and actual costs. Provides technical expertise to strategic, legislative and operational decisions. Trains and mentors others. Position may require extended hours for storms or energy delivery emergencies. Primary Duties
Lead and perform assignments in specialized engineering areas requiring extensive expertise; maintain state-of-the-art credentials in the area. Lead engineering tasks and projects with significant financial and operational impact; may include field testing, troubleshooting, and peer review. Evaluate, develop, implement and lead projects with significant impact; plan commissioning and deliverables; prepare documentation. Participate in department planning, field/site walkdowns, meetings, budget recommendations, and performance monitoring. Perform assignments independently; may lead multi-discipline teams and provide oversight of contractors. Serve as an expert in a specialized area; act as expert witness or provide opinions as required. Provide recommendations and action plans to improve performance and cost effectiveness. Provide technical training, mentorship, peer review, and guidance to others. Participate in technical/industry societies to stay current and influence strategy for new technologies and techniques. Subject matter expert in Transmission Underground Design with experience across 69kV to 345kV, ensuring reliability and operation of underground systems. Guide historical designs, promote standardization, and provide technical leadership while mentoring engineers. Oversee projects using diverse cable systems (e.g., XLPE, HPFF, LPFF, superconductors) and lead upgrades, retrofits, reconductoring, and connections to substations. Coordinate cable routing, bonding schemes, and underground civil construction in urban environments. Influence project decisions with enterprise impact; promote safe work environments and customer satisfaction. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with knowledge of engineering design principles and practices. Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems. Knowledge of problem-solving approaches and engineering theory; familiarity with applicable standards, codes, methods, and practices in relevant areas. 7+ years of professional engineering experience; related career experiences or professional certifications may qualify; PE license or advanced degree may reduce required OJT experience per policy. Strong communication skills and ability to work across teams; willingness to work extended hours for emergencies. Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree or graduate-level work in Engineering, Business Administration, or Project Management Certification. Licensed Professional Engineer, strong teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to analyze industry-wide trends and implement enhancements. Benefits
Annual salary range: $100,800.00/Yr. – $138,600.00/Yr.
