Job Description
Summary : The Associate Director of Alumni Communications and Marketing supports the production of strategic high-quality, brand-consistent marketing communications that engage the University’s nearly 160,000 living alumni— with the goal of transforming them into an engaged community, including potential volunteers and donors, and to enhance the university’s reputation. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Advancement Communications to support the development, implementation, and management of overarching and segmented communications strategies and marketing plans to engage and inform alumni.
The Associate Director will manage the print collateral and online communication vehicles that the Office of Alumni Relations uses to communicate with alumni. This includes working closely with the Associate Director of Alumni and Digital Communications to manage the daily operation of e-mail communications (including e-mail blasts and ongoing newsletters) and determine best practices for email and web marketing.
Essential Functions
Communication and Marketing Strategy: The Associate Director supports the development, implementation, and management of overarching and segmented communications strategies and marketing plans to engage and inform alumni through digital, print communications, and social media. Content Creation: Oversee the creation, implementation, and maintenance of web content designed to engage alumni and advance strategic goals. Project Management: Liaise with UCM and Advancement Communications creative team to develop reasonable production timelines to manage collateral needs that support Alumni Relations objectives. Work with UCM and the Advancement Writer to generate alumni-related content for American magazine when necessary. Work with colleagues in Advancement Communications, University Communications and Marketing, Annual Giving, AU’s school and, colleges, Campus Life, and other units with alumni communication needs. Supervisory Responsibility The Associate Director of Alumni Communications and Marketing may supervise work-study students. Competencies Prioritizing and Organizing. Supporting Coworkers. Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work Full-Time. 35 hours per week. Willingness to work some nights and weekends. Salary Range $70,000- $77,800 annually. Required Education And Experience Bachelor's degree or equivalent. 3-5 years of relevant experience. Preferred Education And Experience Bachelor's degree. 3-5 years of relevant experience. Travel Required Occasional travel may be required outside of the metropolitan Washington, D.C area. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field. Minimum of three years’ experience in communications and marketing, preferably in a nonprofit or higher education environment. Writing experience in the fields of development, public relations, journalism, customer service, investor relations, or similar fields will be considered. Keen attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Knowledge of HTML, Adobe Creative Cloud, email marketing platforms (Engaging Networks), and content management systems (CommonSpot) preferred.
