Departmental Overview Established July 1, 2023, the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS) is the first new college at Berkeley in over 50 years. CDSS offers undergraduate programs in Computer Science, Data Science, and Statistics. The CDSS Undergraduate Advising Office (UAO) provides academic advising to undergraduate students and collaborates across campus to support student success. The Senior College Advisor role serves as an academic advising expert and consultant to College Advisers and campus partners. This position administers advanced advising related to progress toward degree, major exploration, and CDSS policies, and conducts degree evaluations. The incumbent works collaboratively with academic and administrative units across CDSS and partner units. 50% Academic Advising: Apply advanced student development theories to help undergraduates identify and achieve educational goals; advise on degree requirements and course possibilities; monitor academic progress and verify progress toward degree; create Academic Success Plans as needed; provide referrals for non-academic issues; help students access enrichment opportunities and resources; explain policies and assist with registration and enrollment. 30% Leadership and Policy Formulation: Serve as advising expert to College Advisers, deans, and campus partners; advise on policy formation and interpretation; support training and professional development for staff; foster inclusion and belonging in alignment with UC Berkeley principles. 15% Projects: Collaborate on College-wide initiatives and outreach, participate in committees, and represent CDSS Advising as assigned; contribute to planning and dissemination of information about programs. 5% Professional Development: Engage in relevant training, workshops, and conferences. Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent experience; proven advising skills with strong judgment; strong organizational and planning abilities in a dynamic environment; excellent interpersonal skills for collaboration with faculty, staff, and students. Broad knowledge of learning theories; advanced knowledge of advising techniques and student development theory; familiarity with university systems and risk assessment; thorough knowledge of college policies and procedures. Skills in project management, social perceptiveness, and evaluating programs for improvement; ability to identify problems and reason through solutions; knowledge of FERPA. Preferred Qualifications
Master\'s degree in related area or equivalent experience. Salary & Benefits
Budgeted salary range: $70,100 - $95,400; not to exceed $124,700 (grade 21). This is a 100% FTE career position with full benefits.
