Summary
Responsible for leading structural analysis on basic engineering projects, performing and documenting structural engineering, testing analyses and substantiation required to support the installation design and certification of technology onboard commercial aircraft. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities include the following: Actively assists project management and engineering team in solving internal and external analysis-related challenges Responsible for development and review of relevant structural analysis documentation required on basic engineering projects Coordinate analysis engineering vendors for outsourced analysis work Review installation design at both preliminary and critical design review stages to provide inputs to design based on preliminary stress analysis Develop stress analysis models, utilize existing structural analysis tools, and/or perform hand calculations to substantiate the structural integrity of installation designs Develop fatigue and damage tolerance evaluations for installation designs using hand calculations and/or analysis tools Document structural analyses and fatigue assessments in Structural Substantiation Reports and Damage Tolerance Evaluation Reports Develop basic cooling analyses using hand calculations to substantiate to specific cooling requirements and document in Cooling Substantiation Reports Perform and document weight and balance analyses to substantiate the weight and balance impact of the installed system Develop test plans and reports in support of structural and/or cooling substantiation Review analysis documentation for basic projects This position may require knowledge of SOX / 404 internal audit controls and related documentation Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Required: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or in a related technical and/or equivalent field At least 2 years of experience in aviation/aerospace or similar industry Strong technical writing techniques including outlining regulations and/or requirements and detailing substantiation of them Strong analytic problem solving capabilities Experience working in a regulated industry Familiarity and/or experience working in a engineering/technical organization with strict document control processes and procedures Familiarity with aircraft structures and mechanical equipment or in a similar field Preferred: Masters Degree and/or experience in Structural or Composites Engineering Familiarity and/or experience with electro-mechanical systems Familiarity and/or experience with Title 14 CFR regulations Experience with finite element software and solvers Experience with crack growth simulation software At least 2 years of experience working with structures or mechanical equipment in aerospace or a similar field At least 2 years of experience working with FAA Part 21 regulations Astronics CSC provides a comprehensive benefits package available to full-time employees, including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, FSA, HSA, and more. The current estimated yearly salary range for this position is $72,746 to $110,000 per year.
