Staff Mechanical Engineer - Powering Autonomous Vehicles
Overview We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of electromechanical subsystems from concept through production. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and is excited to shape complex, high-performance systems that integrate optics, electronics, and mechanics. You’ll play a key role in product design, reliability, and manufacturability—helping turn innovative concepts into scalable, market-ready products. Key Responsibilities
Subsystem Ownership: Lead the design of electromechanical assemblies from R&D through new product introduction (NPI) and sustaining engineering. CAD Design: Develop and maintain complex CAD assemblies, models, and detailed drawings using SolidWorks. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with electrical and optical engineering teams to deliver fully integrated hardware solutions. Manufacturing Integration: Work closely with quality and production teams to ensure designs are scalable, reliable, and suitable for high-volume manufacturing. Hands-On Support: Assemble, test, and troubleshoot prototype hardware to validate performance and resolve design challenges. Product Roadmap: Contribute to long-term planning and product vision, aligning mechanical design with strategic business and technical goals. Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. 5+ years of experience designing and delivering mechanical hardware products. Expertise in developing highly integrated systems across multiple domains (e.g., opto-mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulics). Strong technical leadership, project management, and cross-functional product planning experience. Proficiency in GD&T and tolerance analysis. Professional CAD skills with SolidWorks. Excellent collaboration, communication, and technical documentation abilities. Proven ability to thrive in high-pressure, fast-paced engineering environments. Hands-on experience building and troubleshooting sensors or complex mechanical assemblies. Willingness to travel occasionally as required. Preferred Experience
Background in developing high-volume or consumer-grade products. Experience transitioning designs into large-scale production environments. Knowledge spanning manufacturing, testing, reliability, and design disciplines. Experience designing systems for harsh or mission-critical environments. Previous experience mentoring junior engineers and fostering team growth. Familiarity with coding in Python for automation or analysis tasks. Experience running FEA and CFD thermal simulations to validate designs. Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and quality methodologies. This is a high-impact role for a mechanical engineer who wants to take full ownership of innovative, multi-domain hardware designs. If you are passionate about building robust, scalable systems and driving products from prototype to production, we’d love to hear from you. About WIT Recruiting WIT Recruiting provides services for contract staffing, permanent placement, dedicated recruitment (RPO), and customized recruiting events. Empowering Teams, Elevating Talent. WIT Recruiting is a Women Impact Tech vertical dedicated to building high-performing teams across all industries and talent pools. We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates.
