Medical Technologist, Laboratory Clinical Hematology Department - Evenings at UChicago Medicine. Be part of a world-class academic healthcare system, performing Hematology lab tests, operating state-of-the-art instruments, and conducting esoteric tests with current technology. The Hematology Medical Technologist provides 24/7 coverage of key tests to support ED/trauma, OR, critical care, and oncology. This department is within UChicago Medicine's Department of Pathology and offers reference laboratory testing to various healthcare entities, managed care organizations, and non-affiliated hospitals and clinics. This position is 100% onsite and based in the greater Chicagoland area. Routinely performs a wide range of clinical analyses in all sections of the laboratory by properly utilizing methodologies and instrumentation according to policies and procedures and in accordance with regulatory requirements to provide results of the highest quality to physicians and patients. Essential Job Functions

Receives specimens submitted to laboratory Uses policies and procedures for requisition and specimen requirements to determine analyzable specimens Ensures proper storage and procedures for specimens that cannot be immediately analyzed Prepares specimens for analysis through centrifugation, aliquotting, and distribution to appropriate laboratory sections Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, principles, instruments, and factors affecting test results Provides patient-focused care through accurate routine and complex tests across pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic stages Maintains compliance with policies, procedures, and records to meet accrediting or regulatory standards Assists in training and continuing education of laboratory personnel, students, residents, fellows, and others Assists in validating and implementing new testing procedures and equipment Participates in training activities to acquire new skills and improve proficiency Answers inquiries regarding specimen handling, results, and technical information; assists clinicians with requests and determines resources when information is unavailable Performs procedures under CLIA ’88 rules as moderate or highly complex testing and adheres to laboratory procedures within turnaround time goals Maintains safe use of equipment following maintenance, safety, and quality control policies Prepares and maintains reagents, standards, and controls; notifies supervisor of shortages or problems Analyzes test and quality control results for errors and deviations; initiates troubleshooting as needed Reports results in the laboratory information system within turnaround times and follows backup procedures during computer downtimes Communicates pertinent information with laboratory staff and supervisors in a respectful and proactive manner Performs other duties as assigned Required Qualifications

Must satisfy CLIA ’88 qualification requirements for testing personnel performing high-complexity testing Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or related field from an accredited college or university Certification or eligibility as medical technologist (MT) through ASCP or equivalent Knowledge and ability to use automated and conventional laboratory equipment and methodologies Knowledge of laboratory/hospital information systems Exceptional organizational ability and attention to detail Ability to work in high-volume, stressful situations Preferred Qualifications

The range is based on full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and accounts for market data, with adjustments for qualifications and internal equity.
