Alumni Engagement at Boston University The Alumni Engagement team is dedicated to understanding alumni, strengthening pride and awareness, and facilitating ways to grow and sustain the base of alumni engaging with and supporting Boston University. The team has oversight of alumni digital strategy, alumni experience operations, and measuring engagement—through both attitudinal and behavioral dimensions—of more than 350,000 alumni across the globe. This team works in close collaboration with colleagues in Advancement, and across departments and schools at Boston University. Assistant Director, Email Strategy The Assistant Director of Email Strategy is a highly independent role managing the department’s email marketing system and operations, provides best practices using engagement analytics, and designs dynamic email content in support of Advancement year-round and in a campaign environment. The Assistant Director is responsible for project managing and deploying the thousands of emails that get distributed to our 350,000+ alumni around the world every year. Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Digital Strategy, this position also works closely with the Communications Coordinator, the Director and Executive Director, and other Advancement staff, as well as campus partners to ensure optimal engagement of our email and online strategies. Responsibilities

In collaboration with colleagues, define goals and develop/carry out concepts for email projects (and website components, when applicable). This includes collaborating with other Advancement and University-wide partners to develop robust strategy and content; identifying new opportunities for promoting alumni engagement; and implementing the design and production of assigned projects. This also includes developing the content and strategy for the all-alumni newsletter, the Alumni Digest. Project manage thousands of emails that get distributed to our 350,000+ alumni year-round. Lead a weekly email marketing meeting with colleagues across Advancement who build and deploy emails, ensuring alignment on schedules and adherence to best practices. Liaise with Advancement and campus partners as well as University External Affairs. Requires working with the Communications Coordinator. Analyze campaign results and redefine strategies as needed. Stay current with emerging email marketing trends and share relevant insights with partners. Oversee quality assurance processes for all email projects, with a focus on testing and copyediting. Ensure accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and adherence to brand standards across email communications. Provide training and support on the broadcast email system, serving as a resource for colleagues building their own content. Work directly with the Director and Senior Associate Director to plan and carry out email strategy in support of large initiatives like Global Days of Service, Alumni Weekend, the Alumni Starter Kit, and more. Includes liaising with Advancement and campus partners as well as University External Affairs. Supervise, train, and mentor student employee(s) supporting email marketing efforts. Provide guidance on project work, ensure quality control, and foster professional development. Required Skills

Undergraduate degree (or higher) in marketing, communications, business, or equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience. Three to five years of experience designing and implementing broadcast email marketing campaigns. Significant experience in project management and working with a diverse set of stakeholders; an ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. Strong knowledge of best practice marketing design techniques, basic knowledge of HTML. Strategic expertise regarding audience segmentation. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to translate marketing best practices to a university audience. Ability to manage change effectively. Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud preferred.
