Defense Litigation Associate Attorney – Medical and Life Sciences
– Harris Beach Murtha is seeking an associate to support the Medical and Life Sciences team in defending general and premises liability matters for clients including senior living, health care, and restaurant/building owners, as well as assist in product liability defense of FDA-regulated products in New York, New Jersey and federal courts. Hybrid opportunity open to New York, NY; Long Island (Uniondale), NY; or White Plains, NY. Responsibilities
Take and defend depositions Research legal, medical and scientific issues and collaborate with senior attorneys on strategies Draft memoranda, briefs, and significant motions including motions for summary judgment, pleadings, and discovery Draft reports to clients (deposition reports, medical record analyses, case analyses, case valuations) Coordinate with and prepare expert witnesses Participate in trial, mediation and ADR planning and preparation Represent clients at courtroom appearances, including oral argument of motions and discovery conferences Firm requires a minimum of 1900 billable hours annually Qualifications
2-10+ years of first-chair deposition and courtroom experience in general/premises liability and/or product liability matters Admitted in New York; New Jersey admission is a plus Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school Familiarity with Zoom, MS Teams and other video conferencing platforms for depositions, court conferences and meetings Ability to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences, including overnight stays, as needed Excellent research, writing and verbal communication skills Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize Able to absorb and understand new information rapidly and manage competing priorities High standards of performance, conscientiousness, dedication, self-discipline and responsibility Professional, cooperative, positive and flexible attitude Military experience welcome Salary
