In this role, you’ll apply strategic and analytical skills to support Capital One’s credit card rewards and benefits programs within the Premium Products & Experiences (PPX) and Card businesses. You’ll advise on developing, offering and delivering industry-leading rewards and benefits that provide unique value to customers. You’ll partner with the business on strategy, learn the rewards team’s initiatives, assess legal and business risks, and advise on features and customer experiences. You’ll collaborate with a cross-functional group of attorneys across the Card Legal team and Capital One Legal, and work in a supportive, collaborative environment that values insights and creative thinking. To succeed, you’ll need strong legal and business analytical skills, clear written and oral communication, and the ability to organize thoughts on legal risk to support business initiatives. Expertise in consumer financial regulatory laws, marketing and advertising laws, and/or general risk management is a plus. This position reports to a Vice President, Senior Associate General Counsel and has responsibility for: Identifying and assessing legal risks associated with Capital One’s rewards and benefits programs within PPX and Card businesses; Knowing the business in depth to translate laws and legal requirements for business teams and legal subject matter experts; Engaging with colleagues to provide legal support as part of a collaborative, cross-functional team; Collaborating with PPX and Card businesses, Brand, the Business Risk Office, Corporate Communications, and Compliance to address risks, develop solutions, and resolve issues. This role involves regular interactions with senior business partners, Legal Department subject matter experts, and other business attorneys in a fast-paced environment. Qualifications
Basic Qualifications Juris Doctor from an accredited law school Active member in good standing of at least one state bar At least 6 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, government, military judge advocate, or in-house counsel Preferred Qualifications 7+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department, or government agency, preferably involving consumer financial services, regulatory counseling, or fintech Ability to work in a dynamic environment with flexibility to adapt to changing needs 5+ years of people management experience Ability to build effective relationships with attorneys, business managers, creative teams, analysts, project managers, and compliance professionals Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple deadlines Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence others At this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position. This role is hybrid, with associates spending 3 days per week in-person at an office listed on this posting. Fridays are enterprise-wide virtual work days. Monday–Thursday are in-person options for collaborative time in team spaces. The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries are listed below and refer to the location-specific pay range offered at the time of hire. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based on hours worked. McLean, VA: $226,000 - $257,900 for Director, Assistant General Counsel Richmond, VA: $205,400 - $234,400 for Director, Assistant General Counsel Candidates hired in other locations will be subject to the pay range for that location; the actual salary will be stated in the offer letter. This role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI).
