Principal Firmware Engineering Manager role at Microsoft. Lead architecture, design, development and deployment of hardware/firmware security solutions that deliver competitive advantage and scale business growth. Collaborate with hardware and software teams to architect and build scalable, reliable solutions for cloud-scale workloads. Oversee evaluation and selection of 3rd party hardware and security solutions; proactively drive roadmap for next-generation security solutions and ensure successful project delivery. Recruit, manage and mentor a team of developers owning the full product lifecycle from incubation to global production management. Embod y our culture and values. Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience OR Masters in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelors in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience 5+ years of professional experience leading and managing large engineering teams Experience with low-level firmware development, device drivers, or protocol development in Embedded Systems with Rust/C OR equivalent Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate with 5+ years of coding experience OR Master’s with 8+ years of coding experience OR Bachelor’s with 12+ years of coding experience OR equivalent 3+ years of people management experience 1+ year experience leading projects from beginning to end Strong problem solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills; advanced design and development capabilities Knowledge of virtualization technologies and cloud services is a plus Experience with security protocols, HW Root of Trust (RoT) highly regarded MS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent industry experience Compensation and Benefits
Firmware Engineering M5 – typical base pay range in the U.S. USD 130,900–251,900 per year; location-based ranges apply (e.g., San Francisco Bay Area, NYC).
