To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional Requirement: Must be board certified with the Internal Medicine (ABIM) in cardiovascular disease, advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology, adult congenital heart disease, interventional cardiology and/or clinical cardiac electrophysiology and maintain competencies as indicated in their delineation of privileges. Physical Requirements: The incumbent must be able to perform all activities of the position without restriction. Duties

The incumbent must be board certified with the Internal Medicine (ABIM) in cardiovascular disease, advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology, adult congenital heart disease, interventional cardiology and/or clinical cardiac electrophysiology and maintain competencies as indicated in their delineation of privileges. All physicians must maintain current ACLS and BLS certification. The responsibilities include hands-on clinical work, oversight, and administration of all aspects of the service, including an extensive research program and guidance and training for medical residents and other trainees. Provides guidance and support to the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) assigned to Cardiology/Medicine Service in their respective areas of expertise. Provides guidance and supervision for the medical students and residents (interns, residents, and/or fellows) assigned to Medicine Service. Participates in various facility programs designed to enhance and improve the delivery of patient care services, such as Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, as assigned by Chief of Cardiology. Adheres to all information security and privacy measures set by VHA and the Medical Center. Clinical: The incumbent will ensure all actions comply with Veterans Health Administration guidelines for Cardiology Section of Medical Service. Patient care: Patients seen have a wide range of medical problems, and the cardiologist will provide all critical duties relating to the delivery of care for cardiology patients and report any discrepancies to the Section Chief and Chief of Medicine.
