SPECIAL EDUCATION ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SCHOOLS AND SETTINGS

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Director provides leadership for special education settings and is a key member of the Regional support model.

Mentoring and hiring new Assistant Directors

Overseeing mentoring programs for new Assistant Directors

Providing professional development for COSE

Supporting specialized strands and services

Managing partial and full inclusive settings and services

Promoting culturally competent practices

Engaging families as partners

The Assistant Director partners with:

Manager for Compliance and Quality Assurance

Senior Program Director for Mediation

Other Assistant Directors for Schools Units

Assistant Director for Behavioral Health

Collaborations include:

Families in planning and problem-solving

Office of Instructional and Informational Technology - Enrollment Planning and Services

Office of Operations Transportation and Facilities Departments

Office of Family and Student Engagement

Offices of Human Capital and Labor Relations

Office of Finance - Budget, Payroll, Purchasing, Contracts

Office of the Legal Advisor

Community-Based Organizations

The Assistant Director serves as:

Regional administrator

Member of the Senior Leadership Team and the Administrators Group

Partner with Directors for School Settings, Student Services, and Compliance and Quality Assurance in planning and leading monthly SESS Coordinator meetings

Member of the Level Cross-Functional Rapid Support Team led by the Level Academic Superintendent

The role includes arranging and providing professional development, guidance, and support to:

Principals and Headmasters

Special Education Coordinators

Teachers, Support Service, and Related Service Providers

The Assistant Director supervises:

Schools Unit Supervisors

Schools Unit Clerks

Schools Unit Management Staff

Provides specialized leadership across categories of special education or areas of work and performs other duties as requested by the Executive Director of Special Education.

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:

Master’s Degree in a related field

MA DESE or Board of Registration Licensure in Special Education or Related Field

MA DESE Licensure in Supervision or Administration

Three (3) years of experience teaching or providing services in urban special education or related field

Leadership and supervision experience in urban special education or related field

Knowledge of special education regulations and best practices

Current authorization to work in the United States (must be obtained by the first day of employment)

QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:

Experience in special education administration and supervision

Proficiency in a language other than English

TERMS: BASAS, Group 11B, 12 months, 225 days
