Position: Phlebotomist 3076

Location: Albany, NY

Schedule: Mon-Fri 7a-4p, every other Saturday 7a-11a

Projected duration: 3 months + potential for perm

Responsibilities

• Phlebotomy on all ages; hard sticks and needles, urine, thyroid testing
• Processing; detail oriented with good experience; computer skills; data entry and processing
• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures
• Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously
• Demonstrate technique using straight and/or butterfly needles; understand physicians\' orders; match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy
• Package specimens for transport; store samples according to required temperatures; label and prepare collection containers; follow protocol to maintain specimen integrity
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations; attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
