Overview
Welding Instructor - Weekends Only (Part-Time)
BRCC is seeking a part-time weekend welding instructor to teach various welding-related courses/processes, including SMAW, GTAW, GMAW and FCAW, at or above the proficiency level of AWS 3G, 4G, and 6G qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Teach welding-related courses/processes as assigned (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW).
- Maintain an online, textbook-based homework program for welding students.
- Ensure safety practices in the welding shop and proper use of PPE.
- Support students across diverse populations and communicate effectively with all learners.
- Occasionally perform other duties as assigned; may assist the agency or state government in emergencies.
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a state vehicle.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to maintain an online, textbook-based homework program for welding students.
- Ability to read blueprints with weld symbols.
- Ability to pass a welder qualification test in SMAW and GTAW in 3G, 4G, and 6G positions for pipe.
- Ability to demonstrate skills in SMAW and GTAW welding processes in the 6G position.
- Knowledge of welding shop safety practices and PPE.
- Knowledge of metal fabrication and pipe fitting, weld machine setup and basic repairs.
- Ability to operate equipment such as metal shears, drill presses, band saws, grinders, porta-bands, belt sander, and Oxy-Acetylene/Plasma cutting as required.
- Ability to lift 75 lbs and stand, walk, bend, and push intermittently.
- Good eyesight (correctable to 20/20).
- Patience, attention to detail, and manual dexterity.
- Availability to provide weekend instruction.
- Ability to pull a trailer.
Additional Considerations
- Previous experience with welder qualification under AWS D1.1 and ASME Sect. IV.
- Previous welding certifications in SMAW, GTAW, and FCAW.
- Any additional industry-recognized credentials or certifications related to this position.
Other Information
This is a part-time wage position, limited to 1500 hours within each 12-month period, with no benefits. There is potential eligibility for educational assistance for BRCC classes and job-related training/certifications. A valid driver’s license, full background check, and driving record check are required.
