Accountant – Upstream Oil & Gas Industry

Located in Midland, TX and in office five days a week.

The Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial records, preparing and analyzing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulations. This role supports the financial integrity of the company and contributes to decision-making processes by delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial data.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform general ledger accounting, journal entries, and month-end close processes.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, intercompany accounts, and other balance sheet items.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports including P&L, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Analyze variances between actual and budgeted results and provide explanations.
  • Manage accounts payable/receivable and joint interest billing (JIB) processes.
  • Ensure compliance with revenue recognition and cost allocation specific to O&G (e.g., SEC, FASB, and GAAP standards).
  • Assist in preparing tax filings, royalty payments, and production reports.
  • Collaborate with field offices and operations teams to ensure accuracy of cost data.
  • Support audits and provide documentation as needed.
  • Stay up to date with regulatory changes and industry trends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience in upstream oil & gas.
  • Familiarity with upstream/midstream accounting and O&G-specific systems (e.g., Quorum, ODA, OGSYS, and Open Invoice).
  • Solid understanding of accrual accounting, cost tracking, and joint interest accounting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience with production accounting and revenue distribution.
  • Knowledge of severance taxes, regulatory reporting (e.g., ONRR, RRC).
  • Exposure to acquisition/divestiture accounting.
