Director of Adult Formation, Evangelization and Outreach
The Archdiocese of Chicago, the third largest in the United States, serves more than 2.2 million Catholics in 216 parishes in Cook County and Lake County, a geographic area of 1,411 square miles. The Director of Adult Formation, Evangelization, and Outreach assists the parish's efforts to foster mature adult discipleship and evangelization both within and beyond the parish community. This position focuses on deepening the faith and engagement of adult Catholics and inviting others into the life of the Church. Responsibilities: Develop, implement, evaluate and improve the ministries and evangelization initiatives. Oversee the program for the preparation of adults who request the sacraments including Adult Confirmation, OCIA and marriage. Plan formation opportunities for spiritual and intellectual growth of the community. Maintain and develop the Adult Faith Formation Team. Collaborate with the Director of Liturgy and Music to ensure that the sacramental rites are celebrated in accordance with church guidelines. Develops a marriage preparation team and program that supports our couples throughout marriage preparation. Oversees the program for preparing the baptism of children. Assist the Pastor with the implementation of the parish mission. Collaborate with the Director of Vicariate Renewal and deanery to create events and opportunities for adult formation and evangelization. Maintain and develop the Young Adult Board. Oversee the marketing of adult faith formation opportunities. Regularly review parish website for new and consistent formational and evangelization content. Assist with maintaining the parish’s social media presence. Research, create and provide effective communication on formation for the weekly e-newsletter. Develop strategies to connect those with no religious affiliation to the Church. Requirements: Practicing Catholic with understanding and support for Catholic Church teaching, mission, and values. Vision and experience in evangelization. Solid understanding of Catholic social teaching, liturgy, and O.C.I.A. Ability to form and nurture small faith communities. Developed skills in leadership and a strong commitment to collaborative teamwork. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Familiarity with digital technology used for communicating and presenting. Open to ongoing formation and education as needed. Demonstrated ability to foster an environment of inclusion and spirit of hospitality and welcome. Self-motivated, detail-oriented, collaborative, faithful, joyful witness, available, fair and balanced, dependable, person of integrity, sensitive to cultural, racial, and ethnic diversity and openness to the needs of the parishioners. Ability to manage projects and be comfortable with change. Availability on evenings, weekends, Church holidays and Sacred Triduum. Preferred Qualifications: M.Div., master’s or bachelor’s degree in pastoral studies, theology, education, adult formation or equivalent. Seven or more years working in a pastoral setting or church environment. The Archdiocese of Chicago offers a comprehensive total rewards package to include competitive compensation and benefit programs. The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 per year.
