Civil Engineer Discipline Lead, Aviation

AECOM is currently searching for a Civil Engineering Discipline Leader to support aviation design management in the Baltimore, Hunt Valley, Maryland location. This position is expected to begin as soon as available in our Transportation Aviation Business Line. The position involves planning, design, engineering, and construction for airport projects dealing with airfield safety, standards, improvement, and expansion programs. Design work includes airfield planning, layout, and site design, earthwork analyses and design, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and design, pavement design and maintenance, construction safety and phasing, aircraft layouts and modeling, storm water management design, erosion and sediment control design, utility coordination and design, environmental permitting, and preparation of construction plans, specifications, schedules, design reports, and cost estimates. Construction work includes construction administration and management including shop drawing review, responding to contractor questions, and construction inspection. The Aviation Engineering Group interacts with and is supported by many other in-house disciplines including Planners, Architects, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical and Special Systems Engineers in typical projects supporting our airport clients. Responsibilities

Provides design technical leadership for the aviation civil engineering group and is considered to be a fully capable professional in the airport field Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Makes decisions independently on technical problems and methods, and represents the organization in conferences Resolves important questions and plans and coordinates work Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modifications and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the aviation field and related sciences and disciplines Supervision and guidance relate largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters Receives direction on unusual conditions and developments Completes designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematics, and final working drawings for preparation of construction plans related to airport development projects including runways, taxiways, aprons, hangars, terminals, and other airport facilities Prepares construction specifications for airport development projects per FAA Advisory Circular 150/5370-10 and State requirements Prepares design reports, schedules, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates Uses various computer software for design development and prepares plans in Civil 3D Coordinates and collaborates with other airport/civil engineering, architectural, and engineering disciplines, sub-consultants, Utility companies, permitting agencies, contractors, government and regulatory agencies, and clients Serves as engineering Task Leader and conducts direct task supervision and mentorship of CAD Staff, Designers, and other Engineers at discretion of department manager Performs construction administration Performs work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering degree + 8 years of related civil experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education As a condition of employment, candidate must pass client required background check(s). Valid US Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review US Citizenship required due to the projects associated with this position Preferred Qualifications: Advanced Experience with Microsoft Office Software Advanced Experience using AutoCAD/Civil 3D design software Experience in performing construction administration and inspection Read, write, and communicate effectively Ability to work in both an office and field (construction) environment Experience leading airfield design and construction tasks as part of a bigger project AECOM is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
