The Knowledge Management (KM) Specialist will work closely with the Director of Knowledge Solutions, other KM team members, and stakeholders to organize, maintain, and optimize the firm's knowledge resources. This role ensures efficient access and utilization across the firm and includes planning and delivering training (including on Generative AI tools and other emerging technologies), developing and executing communications strategies, and providing comprehensive support for legal KM solutions. The KM Specialist will assist with the collection, categorization, organization, and maintenance of legal documents, templates, and best practices to support knowledge resources across the firm.

Responsibilities

Work with the Director of Knowledge Solutions and KM team members to develop, deploy, and manage a portfolio of legal knowledge management solutions and tools.

Maintain systems for legal forms and precedent libraries, implement data management systems, collect knowledge assets, and promote best practices for KM.

Collaborate with practice group stakeholders to track and categorize new KM submissions and ensure information accuracy and consistency.

Monitor KM content lifecycle and archive or update outdated materials with input from stakeholders.

Ensure KM categorizations align with taxonomies used across the firm.

Collaborate with the Research Services Department to identify opportunities to provide and leverage external content alongside internal content for KM queries.

Plan, develop, and deliver training programs and materials for attorneys and staff on KM tools, intranet resources, and best practices; support onboarding and ongoing use of KM solutions.

Serve as a resource for training and assistance with accessing and using KM tools.

Analyze data from practice groups and contribute to internal and client-facing data projects; deepen understanding of practice groups and legal issues to support KM.

Support day-to-day operations of the firm’s Legal KM tools, including content maintenance for intranet sites, databases, and KM resources.

Provide mentoring, training, and advisory guidance to content managers and contributors for engaging content on intranet and KM platforms.

Keep stakeholders informed of progress and support business tasks as assigned.

Participate in project after-action reviews; analyze findings and recommend process improvements to KM leadership.

Work with the Director of Knowledge Solutions to ensure KM projects follow best practices and established standards.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Proficiency in KM tools, especially document management systems (preference for iManage).

Familiarity with collaboration and project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Asana).

Ability to collaborate with practice group stakeholders to keep intranet pages up to date.

Aptitude and interest in communications and legal technologies to help lawyers work more effectively.

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; ability to produce high-quality communications (memos, spreadsheets, slides).

Self-motivated with proactive problem-solving and innovation.

Understanding of typical attorney workflows and needs.

Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Strong organization and time management skills.

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Ability to manage multiple projects and re-prioritize as needed.

Ability to influence without direct management responsibility.

Commitment to professional development, continuous learning, and passion for KM, technology, innovation, and problem solving.

Ability to establish credibility with lawyers and clients as a valuable internal consultant.

Education And/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in library science, information management, business administration, communications, or related field.

Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in knowledge management and curation in a complex environment.

Experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or other legal services provider environment.

Knowledge management coursework or certification strongly desired.

Experience planning and delivering training preferred.

Prior experience managing projects required.

Compensation

Salary range: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00, depending on position, location, education, training, and/or experience.
