Engineer

performs advanced journey level and leadwork duties in the technical operation, maintenance and repair of various HVAC/R, electrical, plumbing and auxiliary systems. Troubleshoot and diagnose a variety of MEP systems in a widely dispersed building. This role pays an hourly rate of $35.50-$38.50 Benefits for Full-Time roles: Health, Dental and Vision Insurance, 401(k) Savings Plan, 401(k) matching, and Paid Time Off (vacation days, sick days, and 11 holidays). The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas (KBHCCD) is one of the largest convention centers in the nation. Every year it welcomes over a million visitors attending major national and international conventions, meetings, concerts, athletic competitions, auto shows, and more. Located in the heart of downtown Dallas, the KBHCCD has been and continues to be a fixture in the Dallas skyline offering 1 million square feet of exhibit space, three ballrooms, 88 meeting rooms, 1,750-seat theater, and a 9,816-seat arena. The award-winning facility is connected to a 1,001-room hotel via skybridge and is adjacent to two Vertiport landing pads.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair problems within HVAC/R equipment systems, including heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and related equipment (VRF systems, multi-zone units, electrical controls, pneumatic controls, steam coils, chilled water systems, self-contained heating and cooling units, exhaust systems, pumps, air compressors, ductwork, cooling towers, and other miscellaneous equipment). Plan and coordinate HVAC maintenance for projects and events in contracted spaces, typically one month out and leading into the upcoming week prior to events. With the HVAC Manager, develop projects ranging from one week to one month in advance. Assist HVAC Technicians with diagnosing equipment issues and performing repairs as needed. Develop and maintain an accurate building supplies/tools list for HVAC maintenance and document monthly checks for tools and supplies. Help oversee the Building Automation System (BAS), limit overrides, and identify sensor/control issues. Work with HVAC and Warehouse Managers to develop and order parts in advance for upcoming projects. Ensure spaces are tested and documented weekly for proper cooling/heating ahead of the next event. Monitor and adjust building automation controls for comfort and energy savings. Schedule and monitor building automation for HVAC and lighting systems. Adhere to OSHA practices (e.g., lock-out/tag-out, MSDS, confined entry, bloodborne pathogens). Understand how to reset equipment such as chillers, VFDs, air handlers, and boilers. Check cooling tower hot decks, remove dirt and debris, clean strainers on equipment (condenser, hot and chilled water systems). Operate and monitor steam distribution from central points and pressure reducing stations. Inspect, dismantle, repair, and reassemble equipment as directed. Complete tests for chemical control of boiler water, cooling water, and condensate. Troubleshoot, repair and replace general and laboratory exhaust fan systems. Repair or adjust valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings. Understand VFD operation and how to control motor speeds by adjusting frequency (hertz). Perform routine maintenance on heat exchangers and replace steam regulating pressure relief valves. Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on actuators and other automatic control valves. Understand low/high water cut-offs for boilers and operate deaerator systems for steam applications. Replace and repair 3-way valves, bypass valves, and isolation valves. Blow down boilers and cooling towers daily; setup chain fall systems to change strainers for chillers and condenser water pumps. Operate confidently aerial platforms and forklifts; perform related tasks in facility routing and pipe tracing. Some brazing/soldering experience for preferred applications; knowledge of DDC and building automation systems. Replace different pipe types (copper, cast iron, stainless steel); clean and organize mechanical rooms, mezzanines, physical plants, and workshops. Address roof leaks, sprinkler and water leaks; understand equipment controllers such as JACEs and related troubleshooting; interpret wiring diagrams for low-voltage systems. Responsible for pump and motor alignments; understand testing and balancing for water flow, pipe size, and air flow. Change flex-couplings on pumps and pipe connections; pipe fitting experience; troubleshoot and replace dampers (including relief and outside air dampers). Replace motors and pumps with bearings and seals; troubleshoot natural gas systems, regulators, and adjust pressures as needed. Qualifications

High school diploma (or equivalent) required Minimum of 10-12 years of direct experience in commercial HVAC/R and control programs Possession of a CT D-2 license or equivalent technical trade school and experience OSHA 10 and 30 certifications Experience with computerized building automation systems Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic IT functions Clear and concise English communication, both verbal and written Ability to work independently and as part of a team Willingness to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed for events; flexibility to adjust for emergencies Solid problem-solving skills Two or more years of education and/or full-time work experience in operation/maintenance/repair of steam boilers, centralized AC or electrical power generating equipment Additional: ability to communicate clearly in English, independently or in a team setting Equal Opportunity Employer
