This role involves setting strategy, overseeing underwriting, and driving business development to ensure the company's profitability and growth. Key Responsibilities
Develop and Execute Business Strategy: Create and implement the strategic vision for the casualty reinsurance portfolio, aligning it with the company’s overall risk appetite and financial goals. Manage Underwriting Operations: Mentor a team of underwriters, overseeing the evaluation, pricing, and structuring of complex reinsurance contracts to ensure profitability. Cultivate Client and Broker Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and reinsurance brokers to drive new business opportunities and retain existing accounts. Monitor Market Trends and Risk: Stay informed about market conditions, emerging risks, and regulatory changes to make proactive decisions and maintain a competitive edge. Oversee Financial Performance: Manage the profit and loss (P&L) of the casualty portfolio, reporting on key financial metrics to senior leadership and the board. Qualifications
Technical Skills/Competencies: Deep Underwriting Expertise: Extensive knowledge of various casualty lines, including general liability, professional liability, and workers' compensation. Actuarial and Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of actuarial principles, financial modeling, and data analytics to assess risk and structure profitable deals. Contract Negotiation: Proven ability to negotiate complex reinsurance treaty terms and conditions. Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant insurance and reinsurance regulations. Portfolio Management: Experience in managing and optimizing a large, diverse book of business to meet profitability targets. Behavioral Competencies: Strategic Thinking: The ability to see the big picture and develop long-term plans that align with business objectives. Strong Leadership: Exceptional leadership and team-building skills to motivate and guide a high-performing team. Excellent Communication: The ability to articulate complex ideas clearly to various stakeholders, from team members to clients and executives. Decisive: The capacity to make timely, sound decisions under pressure. Client-Focused: A commitment to building and nurturing relationships to drive business growth. Work Experience: A minimum of 10-15 years of experience in reinsurance or insurance is required, with a significant portion of that time focused on casualty underwriting and management. Experience in a leadership role, such as a Vice President or senior underwriter, is essential. Experience managing a full P&L and leading a team is also necessary. Additional Information
