Treaty Reinsurance Underwriter
As a Treaty Reinsurance Underwriter, you will engage in the analysis, pricing, and management of treaty reinsurance programs for the Latin American and Caribbean markets. This role is ideal for someone with an analytical mindset, a strong interest in the reinsurance industry, and a desire to grow within a dynamic, multicultural environment. You will gain hands-on experience in underwriting processes while building knowledge of regional market trends and client relationships. Key Responsibilities Underwriting and Risk Assessment : Analyze treaty reinsurance proposals for a variety of lines of business, including property, casualty, and specialty lines. Assess risks and exposures to determine pricing and terms in alignment with company guidelines. Assist in the development and management of a profitable treaty portfolio for the Latin American and Caribbean region. Market Research and Strategy : Conduct in-depth research on market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory developments in the region. Contribute to the development of regional underwriting strategies that align with corporate objectives. Client and Broker Relationship Management : Support senior underwriters in maintaining relationships with cedents, brokers, and other stakeholders in the region. Participate in client and broker meetings (virtual or in-person) to gain exposure to key market interactions. Help prepare documentation and presentations for negotiations and client discussions. Collaboration and Reporting : Work closely with actuarial, claims, and Nat Cat modeling teams to support underwriting decisions. Assist in the preparation of detailed reports and analyses for senior management on portfolio performance and market developments. Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and corporate governance standards. Innovation and Continuous Improvement : Identify opportunities for product development or process improvements. Leverage data analytics and technology to enhance underwriting practices. Success Factors: Underwrites to established growth and profitability targets whereas profitability prevails. Able to balance growth and profitability requirements to meet targets. Positive interaction with Clients and Brokers securing reliable and competent customer service. Complies with all Underwriting Rules & Guidelines. Passes all internal and external audits by demonstrating acceptable file documentation and compliance, underwriting authority and regulatory requirements. Works efficiently with Actuaries, Accountants, Cat modelling team and modelling tools. Required Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Insurance, or a related field. Ongoing studies or interest in obtaining professional designations such as ARe, CPCU, or equivalent is an advantage. Experience : Proven track record of relevant experience in a treaty reinsurance underwriting role, preferably with exposure to the Latin American and Caribbean markets. Skills and Competencies : Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to evaluate complex risks. Deep understanding of treaty reinsurance structures, pricing models, and market dynamics in the region. Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in English and Spanish is required. Cultural awareness and adaptability to work effectively in diverse environments. Technical Knowledge : Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements in the Latin American and Caribbean markets. Proficient in using underwriting tools and reinsurance software. Travel : Willingness to travel within the region and internationally as required.
