Overview
Position Summary:
With over $1.5 billion in operating expenses, the Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT) is the arm of the New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) dedicated to providing the students of New York City with safe, reliable transportation. Over 150,000 students utilize yellow bus service, with about 8,000 buses operating each day. School transportation services are provided to public, charter, non-public, and early childhood programs, and families. The Deputy Director of Fleet Management and Safety is a critical member of the OPT leadership team. Under the Executive Director of Fleet Management and Safety, with broad scope for the exercise of initiative and judgment, the Deputy Director of Fleet Management and Safety leads strategic school bus planning, manages and leads the development and implementation of policies, goals, objectives, practices, and procedures in support of the school bus program. The Deputy Director of Fleet Management and Safety serves as the chief advisor to the Executive Director related to strategic coordination of the vehicles, staff, and 60+ contractors that power the NYCPS’s school bus system. Managerial and non-managerial staff, including operations and account management experts. Key Relationships:
Relationships will be fostered with all levels of staff and management within OPT, transportation contractors, NYCPS principals, parents, school community, and New York State offices.
