Overview The County of San Diego is currently accepting applications for Wastewater Electrical Control Specialist. The employee in this job class will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining electrical and electronic systems and equipment at County wastewater and water facilities; and providing technical guidance, advice, and training to staff on electrical and instrumentation devices.

Interviews will take place on an ongoing basis.

Salary note Future Salary Increases: June 2026 – 5.34% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 2.34% Market Adjustment). June 2027 – 5.24% increase to base pay (2.90% Across-the-Board + 2.34% Market Adjustment).

Hiring Timelines & Dates

Job Offer and Background Process begins after the interviews. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.

Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.

Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Minimum Qualifications

Four (4) years of experience as a journey level electrician which included responsibility for the planning, installation, operation and maintenance of electrical control and instrumentation systems.

Working Conditions Required to work at wastewater and water facilities, and on high trucks, poles, and ceilings. May be exposed to heat, cramped workspaces, adverse weather, noxious fumes, explosive gases, high electrical voltage and currents, dust, heights, and loud machine noises. Subject to emergency work on a 24-hour, call back basis.

Condition of Employment As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.

Evaluation The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month eligible list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental application.
