Position Objective Dunigan Bros., Inc., a family-owned heavy civil contractor based in Jackson, MI, seeks a Vice President of Operations to join their executive team and lead all aspects of construction execution, including estimating, field leadership, project management, safety, and engineering. This key leadership succession role reports to the President and is responsible for driving performance, developing people, and scaling systems to support growth in complex wet utility and municipal projects. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, strategic leader with strong underground infrastructure experience, a bias for action, and a passion for building teams. Lead operational performance across all departments: project management, estimating, field operations, safety, and equipment. Oversee execution of complex wet utility projects ($10M–$50M+), ensuring excellence in safety, quality, budget, and schedule. Guide preconstruction and estimating efforts, aligning bids with operational capacity and strategic goals. Manage company performance, forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning in partnership with the President. Build and mentor a high-performing leadership team while fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and collaboration. Support long-term succession planning during a 6–12-month transition alongside the current VP. What We’re Looking For
8–10+ years of leadership in heavy civil or underground utility construction (water, sewer, stormwater). Strong background in estimating, project delivery, and operations strategy. Experience managing $10M–$50M+ civil projects with proven financial results. Skilled in job costing, scheduling, margin control, and performance metrics. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (P.E. preferred). A team-first, grounded leader who balances people development with results-driven execution. Willingness to relocate to the Jackson, MI area and invest long-term in the company’s culture and future. Seniority level
