Position Purpose and Overview: Assistant Store Managers in Training learn the responsibilities and functions of the following roles: Assistant Store Manager, Operations Assistant Store Manager, Night Operations Assistant Store Manager, and Specialty Assistant Store Manager. They support the Store Manager in developing strategies and objectives toward driving store sales and profitability, and they learn how to accomplish these objectives through effective leadership of and communication to their Associates.

Key Responsibilities

General customer service initiatives, including supervising associates in the selling effort, maintaining the store’s in-stock position, and keeping the store appearance appealing and organized.

Staffing and scheduling, identifying and resolving stock deficiencies, guiding associates in selling behaviors, resolving customer issues, and supporting service needs for installed sales, special orders, and product sales.

Supervising store associates, including interviewing, hiring, motivating, coaching, training, developing, and communicating with associates. Learn the performance management process, including semi-annual performance reviews and disciplinary actions when necessary.

Operations management, including supervision of front-end processes involving sales and returns, special services, and lot support; overseeing back-end processes with receiving and freight teams to ensure merchandise is received and stocked appropriately.

Maintaining and operating store equipment and systems; managing daily financial operations; developing proficiency with store SOPs, especially Safety compliance.

Business analysis and merchandise planning to drive department profitability through sales trend analysis; collaborating with Store Managers, Field Merchandising, MET Teams to plan merchandise placement and signing; supporting stock integrity through inventory management processes.

Direct Manager/Direct Reports

ASM in Training reports to a Store Manager. Upon completion of training, they will gradually assume accountability for supervising associates’ work activities.

Travel Requirements

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Physical Requirements

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunities to move about. On rare occasions, there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Working Conditions

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
