Upper Adams School District . The head coach is directly responsible to the athletic director. With athletic director approval the head coach is responsible for all aspects of his/her sport. Responsibilities
Organizational and Administrative: in cooperation with the Athletic Director, arrange an organizational meeting for candidates before the start of the season; parent/physician certificates and insurance forms may be distributed at this time. Attend the physical examination for your sport and complete the eligibility sheet; collect all other forms. Complete the eligibility sheet and return it along with the parent/physician certificates, insurance waiver forms, and Form A to the Athletic Director before the first practice. Issue equipment and maintain an accurate log of issued equipment; ensure athletes take care of equipment in their care. Plan and organize practices and coordinate junior/senior program; assign duties to assistants, including junior high coaches. Administer pre-game details, home and away, as necessary. Familiarize yourself with and explain to athletes the P.I.A.A. and league rules and regulations regarding amateur status, eligibility, and athlete responsibilities; inform and enforce scholastic and attendance requirements for participation in athletics. Select student managers and instruct them in their responsibilities and conduct. Supervise and maintain discipline in locker room, on bus, and at games; attend all practices and games; be the last one out of the building following practice and games (lights, showers, doors). End of season: collect equipment and uniforms, ensure cleaning and proper storage; provide information to the Athletic Director on proper forms (inventory, equipment to be discarded, athletes who failed to return equipment). Prepare and submit at end of season: report on players (numbers starting/ending season, letter winners, awards); compile a season record (high scorer, win-loss, top scorer, top rebounder, most pins, best times, possible school records) for submission to the Athletic Director within specified timelines. Requisition equipment and supplies for the sport. Recommend to the Athletic Director and principal the retention or replacement of staff; be present to award letters and trophies at award ceremonies. Ensure security of valuables. Coaching Methods and Techniques: treat all players fairly; coach and instruct the team in proper fundamental skills; upgrade technical skill level; use sound conditioning methods to keep athletes in top physical condition and reduce injury risk; understand the physical, social, mental, and psychological make-up of players and how it can affect play; work with athletic trainer on treatment and rehabilitation of injured athletes. Personal Characteristics and Training: enjoy working with young people; have fundamental knowledge of the sport; set a good example for assistants and team; teach athletes to win through fair play; control temper and maintain professional conduct at practices and games; study, analyze, and improve coaching competency; support and promote other school sports and maintain ethical relationships with players, assistants, administrators, the public, and the press. Public Relations: attend booster club meetings as able; set a pattern for wholesome public relations within the school and community; interpret the program as part of the educational program; treat officials and opponents with respect; maintain professional conduct at games and with media.
