Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to ensure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you will use your industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize total cost of ownership for Google’s global infrastructure. The scale of Google’s operations means savings on hardware can have a large impact on the bottom line. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$216,000 plus bonus, equity and benefits. Compensation details reflect base salary; bonuses, equity and benefits are separate. As the Commodity Manager within the optics management team, you will define and execute Google’s sourcing strategy and supplier management for optical technologies. You will act as a key liaison with engineering teams working on New Product Introduction (NPI). You will also collaborate with planning teams to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of materials, manage manufacturing capacity based on dynamic forecasts, implement risk mitigation for supplier assurance, and partner with procurement to secure optimal pricing and delivery at scale. You will work with cross-functional partners to drive quality objectives and manage both tactical and strategic issues to support Google’s cloud infrastructure growth. Manage multiple projects and suppliers, negotiating contracts from statements of work to master supply agreements to secure favorable pricing and terms. Lead cross-functional teams through the supplier selection process for new platforms and collaborate with stakeholders to balance innovation, time-to-market, cost, quality, and delivery. Oversee operational aspects of the supply chain, including schedules, capacity, and supply chain flexibility; communicate status and risks to management and drive continuous improvement. Mitigate supply chain risks and measure partner performance through regular business reviews to ensure quality and continuous improvement. Maintain industry expertise to inform sourcing strategies and negotiations. Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a Technical or Engineering field or equivalent practical experience. 7 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management. Experience in commodity management or sourcing within the optical transceivers or transmission category, including agreement negotiation and supplier development. Preferred qualifications: MBA or Master’s degree in a Technical or Engineering field. 4 years of experience in Optics manufacturing and optical supply chain processes, and strategic business planning and execution. Experience with data center, networking and optics commodities. Experience with spreadsheet software, SQL, and scripting.
