Hospital for Special Surgery The Vice President, Development Operations (VP) is a new position that offers an exciting opportunity for an accomplished and innovative professional to lead development operations, communications, fundraising, data strategy, reporting, and programs that raise critical funds for strategic priorities, drive pipeline development, and maximize donor engagement. The VP oversees the day-to-day operations of development areas including data management and gift administration, donor tracking, stewardship and communication activities, events and annual fund, creating efficiency in operations and processes. They provide strategic fundraising guidance and oversight in prospect research, moves management tracking, and stewardship planning that focus on advancing strategic fundraising initiatives, growing the donor pipeline, stewarding donors, and building culture. Acting as both a strategic leader and an operational manager, the position bridges high-level fundraising goals and the practical systems and processes needed for long-term success. In collaboration with colleagues across the organization, the VP envisions, inspires, creates and delivers a best-in-class donor experience that raises HSS’s profile as the national leader in orthopedics. First-Year Aspirations Build rapport and instill confidence with the Chief Development Officer, development team, and key stakeholders throughout the organization. Assess the Development team to ensure the appropriate alignment and allocation of resources and personnel across development functions and programs. Evolve the data strategy, creating structure and automating systems to leverage data in support of continued growth. Optimize and grow communications, events and annual fund, defining goals for each program, creating data efficiencies, encouraging cross-functional collaboration, documenting workflows, and creating accountability. Develop and produce dashboards and performance reports that guide fundraising strategy and measure KPIs. Develop a business plan to maximize the potential of Bike HSS, a unique peer-to-peer fundraising program. Create and execute a robust corporate giving strategy that builds on the success of BIKE HSS and other events. Further define and build a donor stewardship program that utilizes best practices and creates standards across giving levels, with a particular focus on donors of $1M and above. Education & Experience A bachelor’s degree in business administration, operations management, information management, or a related field is required; a master’s degree in one of these areas is preferred. Ten or more years of progressive management experience in healthcare fundraising, operations, including experience in an academic medicine environment. Capabilities Deep technical competence in CRM management and success managing technical teams. Up to date with current and emerging technology to seamlessly integrate new technology that enhances reporting, analytics, research, and prospect management in support of fundraising activities that grow revenue. Deep knowledge of industry best practices and a continuous improvement mindset to bring all perspectives to decision making, challenging self and others to think outside the box. Solid background in program and project management including planning, budgeting, resource allocation, stakeholder engagement, risk management, prioritization and decision-making. A strategic thinker with a performance and growth mindset who aligns communications and programs with broader organizational goals. A collaborative approach to working with executive and medical leadership, development colleagues, and staff, earning their respect through careful listening and bringing authority and expertise to solutions.
