Covenant House California (CHC) is a nonprofit organization that provides sanctuary and support for youth overcoming homelessness, ages 18-24. CHC believes that no young person deserves to be homeless; that every young person in California deserves housing, food, clothing, education, and most importantly, to be loved. CHC provides a full continuum of services to meet the physical, emotional, educational, vocational, and spiritual well-being of young people. Exempt Salary 40/hr week Position Summary
To manage, coordinate, supervise, and train a team of paraprofessionals to ensure the delivery of services to youth in the emergency shelter and transitional living program in accordance with the Covenant House Mission and Covenant House California Policies and Procedures. This position functions as supervisor of both the Safe Haven emergency shelter and Rights of Passage transitional living program for Day, Evening and Overnight shifts. This position is required to adhere to all agency policies/procedures and practices and ensures staff he/she supervises does the same. The Resident Manager (RM) works with the Director of Residential Services (DRS) to provide leadership and management of day-to-day operations. All CHC staff work together to facilitate safety and comprehensive programming for youth in our programs and services. The RM main duties include weekend and evening management, coordination, supervision, and training of a team of residential advisors to ensure the delivery of services to youth in the shelter are in accordance with the Covenant House Mission and Covenant House California Policies and Procedures and Core Principles. The other focus of the RM position is to work with the DRS to design and implement a weekly and monthly program calendar. The RM leads both the life skills programming and the chore program. Essential Functions
(Duties and functions performed based on the shift assigned) Manage and coordinate direct care services provided to youth. Participate in administrator on-call rotation with the management team. Provide direct oversight, supervision, training and coaching to all Resident Advisor staff. Hold staff team meetings for informational and training purposes in conjunction with the Director of Residential Services. Assist in setting and coordinating weekly/monthly staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage 7 days per week. Provide emergency back-up staff coverage as needed during staffing shortages or during crisis situations. Monitor and review staff timesheets for appropriate time card punches, ensure notes/justification are included, and review and sign final time sheets for staff supervised. Assign and monitor staff responsibilities for any given shift, including supervision of youth and activities, facility cleanliness, night meetings, transportation to appointments, and group activities. Lead daily shift transition meetings. Identify training needs and advise the leadership team of training opportunities. Create and facilitate life skills training and chore program. Oversee youth internships as assigned. Authorize emergency shelter for youth, in conjunction with the Director of Residential Services and program management team. Monitor petty cash usage, submit receipts per transition to the Director of Residential Services, and ensure transactions are accountable by the Accounting department. Attend weekly team CPR / client progress review meetings as appropriate by shift. Prepare monthly fire and earthquake drills. Attend Coordinated Entry Assessment (CES) community meetings. Milieu/Youth Monitor Safe Haven shelter and ROP census to ensure compliance with CHC open intake, restriction, discharge and re-entry policies; support ongoing monitoring and achievement of program goals. Provide crisis intervention to residents, as appropriate. Assist youth in following through on individual case plan tasks and maintain awareness of case management processes. Complete all other duties as assigned. Job Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services preferred. Experience:
Experience with at-risk youth, preferably runaway and homeless youth. 1-3 years of management/supervisory/coordination experience in a residential setting; case management experience preferred. Skills:
Knowledge of adolescent development, crisis intervention, CPR and First Aid. Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate with youth, families, vendors, and the public. Ability to exercise appropriate authority in crises, and to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Transportation:
Must have a valid CA driver license, reliable transportation, and a good driving record. Conditions:
This position is full-time (40 hrs/week). Participation in on-call rotation schedule; on-call coverage for assigned shifts. Supervisory Duties:
Provide direct and indirect supervision to Resident Advisors, Case Managers, per diems and volunteers. Equipment Used:
