Director of the Center for the Advancement of Positive Education
(CAPE). The Director is the strategic and visionary leader of CAPE and is responsible for guiding CAPE toward fulfilling its mission, vision, and values, along with the development of its strategic plan. The Director reports to and works collaboratively with the CAPE Senior Advisor, the Dean of the PJWCOE, the University of Montana Provost’s Office, the Office of the President, and CAPE staff to integrate CAPE programming and resources into the University of Montana's mission and strategic plan. Responsibilities include: Articulate and promote the mission, vision, and values of CAPE. Strategically and collaboratively direct CAPE, infusing principles of positive psychology into educational delivery on campus and into local, state, regional, and national educational offerings. Oversee scholarship and reimbursement programs to support and sustain the Montana educator workforce. Develop strategic initiatives to integrate evidence-based happiness practices into curricula at the University of Montana and K-12 schools. Oversee the recruitment, development, and function of an ongoing Advisory Council for CAPE. Initiate and monitor projects that generate funds and contribute to CAPE’s sustainability (grants, revenue streams, fundraising, events). Provide campus-wide leadership for integrating positive education principles across academic disciplines. Establish a visible leadership role within the campus community, including strategic planning, events, media presence, and other duties as needed. Qualifications include: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Counseling, Education, Psychology, or a related discipline; an Ed.S. or Montana Class III Administrative License (or equivalent) with ten years of administrative experience will also be considered. Evidence of leadership skills and experience. At least three years’ experience teaching, conducting research, and providing service in an academic or academic-like setting. Evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration skills and ability to collaborate with schools, agencies, and partners at state and national levels. Experience with curriculum development, teaching, facilitating workshops, and presenting professionally in an academic setting. Experience collecting data, conducting research, and evaluating outcomes of teacher/course/workshops. Experience with grant writing, fundraising, and/or fee-for-service revenue generation. Experience communicating with large education networks. Knowledge of and experience applying positive psychology or positive education in education, academic, or clinical settings; experience presenting and publishing in the field. Commitment to UM’s mission of inclusive prosperity for all. Preferred Qualifications Five years of experience teaching, researching, and providing service in an academic setting. Extensive local, statewide, and national networking experience. Established reputation as a leader in counseling, education, or psychology. Five years of experience presenting and publishing content related to positive psychology and positive education. Proven excellence in presenting to large professional and public groups. Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, with a comprehensive benefits package including insurance, retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
