Autoliv Job Summary: The Safety & Sustainability Director for the Americas leads the development and implementation of comprehensive safety strategies across the division (Canada, USA, Mexico, and Brazil) to ensure compliance with regional regulations and drive continuous improvement in workplace safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainable practices. This role partners with cross-functional teams to embed a culture of safety and sustainability, aligning regional efforts with global corporate goals. Collaborates with plant leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a culture of safety excellence, with a targeted focus on high-risk areas including die casting operations and explosive materials handling. Responsible for leading the development and implementation of safety strategies across the division, including repetitive motion activities and forklift safety. Serves as a key advisor to senior leadership on safety and sustainability matters, contributing to strategic decisions and long-term planning. Location:
This position may be located in Ogden, Utah, Auburn Hills, Michigan, or at our Mexican locations. What you’ll do: Strategic Leadership:
Develop and execute division-wide safety and sustainability strategies aligned with corporate goals and regulations. Operational Oversight:
Lead safety programs across manufacturing sites, including those involving explosives, die casting, automated systems, and high-labor operations. Compliance & Risk Management:
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation in all operating countries and Autoliv standards. Conduct risk assessments and audits to mitigate hazards proactively. Sustainability Initiatives:
Drive strategies to meet company targets, including climate neutrality by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2040, through initiatives reducing energy use, waste, and carbon footprint. Training & Culture:
Promote a zero-incident culture via training, leadership engagement, and employee empowerment. Incident Management:
Oversee investigations of serious incidents, root cause analysis, and corrective actions. Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with regulatory agencies, community partners, and leadership. Global Engagement:
Participate in global teams and initiatives. Ergonomics:
Develop strategies to reduce exposure and risk. What is required: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred. Certifications such as CSP, CIH, HMM are advantageous. Minimum 10 years of leadership experience in EHS within automotive or high-volume manufacturing, with expertise in explosives safety, die casting, automated systems, and sustainability. Experience across multiple countries is required. Skills include knowledge of safety legislation, problem solving, project management, collaboration, accountability, strategic agility, resilience, and visionary thinking.
