The Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) will provide strategic leadership and oversight for all EHS programs across North America, with a primary focus on chemical manufacturing operations.
This role ensures that we maintain exemplary regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, health, operational safety, and a culture of continuous improvement.
The Director will partner with senior leadership, regulatory agencies, and site leaders to drive a unified EHS strategy aligned with business growth and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Compliance:
Establish and execute the EHS strategic roadmap for manufacturing operations across North America, under the guidance of the Director of Operations.
Serve as the principal liaison with regulatory bodies (OSHA, EPA, DHS, state agencies), ensuring full compliance and proactive engagement.
Provide executive-level guidance on emerging regulatory trends, risk mitigation strategies, and operational impacts in an industrial environment.
Partners with the QEHS function by lead the implementation and continuous improvement of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
Direct corporate regulatory audits, incident investigations, and corrective action programs to minimize risk exposure.
Operational Excellence & Culture Building:
Drive accountability for EHS performance through measurable KPIs and standardized reporting across all manufacturing sites.
Champion a culture of safety, sustainability, and compliance by integrating EHS into all business operations and decision-making processes.
Lead enterprise-wide training initiatives, ensuring regulatory awareness and competency across all levels of the organization.
Cross-Functional Partnership:
Collaborate with Operations, HR, Finance, R&D, Technical Service, Purchasing, and QEHS teams to ensure EHS considerations are integrated into project planning, capital investments, and process modifications.
Support product, process, and facility expansions by embedding EHS risk assessments and regulatory compliance into all phases of project planning.
Partner with Corporate and Global leadership to align regional EHS priorities with global standards and initiatives.
Leadership & Influence:
Build and lead a high-performing EHS team with a focus on talent development, succession planning, and strong site-level engagement.
Act as a visible and influential leader, engaging directly with senior executives, site leaders, and employees to promote EHS as a core value.
Drive continuous improvement by leveraging benchmarking, trend analysis, and innovation to advance the company's EHS performance.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field.
Minimum 10 years of progressive EHS leadership experience, with at least 5 years in manufacturing at a director or Senior Manager level.
Strong knowledge of U.S. and international EHS regulatory frameworks (OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DHS, DOT, and state regulations).
Demonstrated success leading multi-site EHS programs in a complex manufacturing environment.
Experience with ISO 14001/45001 implementation and management.
Proven ability to engage and influence senior leadership, regulatory agencies, and diverse stakeholder groups.
Strong analytical, communication, and change management skills.
Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Anticipated travel at 75%.
