The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary $74,652 to $158,688/year; $6,221 to $13,224/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $89,004 - $94,812/year; $7,417 to $7,901/per month. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Application Deadline:

Duties

Teach in the Department of Health Science using techniques that support diverse student success. (Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.) Engage in interdisciplinary collaborative efforts Engage in the development, maintenance and teaching of undergraduate (Bachelor’s) and graduate (Masters and DrPH) curricular offerings, including accreditation-related activities Engage in mentoring and advising undergraduate and graduate students Engage in an active research agenda Engage in the dissemination of research in refereed academic outlets and discipline-specific professional meetings Engage in the application of external funding to support research agenda Engage in activities that support diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus, in local and global communities, and the profession Engage in service to the department, college, university, community, and profession CSULB seeks to recruit faculty who enthusiastically support the University’s strong commitment to the academic success of all of our students, including students with disabilities, students who are first generation to college, veterans, students with diverse socio-economic backgrounds, and students of diverse sexual orientations and gender expressions. The Department of Health Science’s mission is to aid and encourage students’ development into knowledgeable professionals and life-long learners who will lead efforts to support health equity for all within the fields of health science, public health, community health, health education and other related areas. The program fosters the development of person- and community-centered health professionals who are culturally sensitive and responsive to the complex social determinants of health. Upon graduation, our students are able to support and enhance the physical, psychological and social well-being of people, individually and collectively, in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic metropolitan context. The department has received over $10 Million in federal funding to develop new interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate certificates in Public Health Informatics and Technology [PHIT], which is offered across California. The department also offers undergraduate and graduate degree options, and anticipates starting the terminal degree option in Public Health (i.e., DrPH) in Fall 2025; DrPH program concentrations will include PHIT, Global Health, and Community Health and Policy. These exciting changes align well with the University’s recent R2 designation. The department houses the Center for Health Equity Research and Center for Latino Community Health, Evaluation and Leadership Training. Through these centers and community-based partnerships, the department engages in training, research and service aimed at understanding and addressing the unique needs of underserved populations to enhance their health and well-being. Doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., Dr.PH., DSc, MD/DO) in Public Health or a closely related field including, but not limited to, program tracks/concentrations related to Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Global Health, Population Health, Health Informatics, Bioinformatics, Digital Health, AI, Information Systems, Operations Research, Machine Learning, Data Science, Statistics, Computational Biology, Computational Neuroscience, Computer Science with emphasis on AI or a closely related disciplineIf terminal degree is not in Public Health, the concentration, thesis or research should be health-related Degree must be from an accredited institution and program Doctoral degree must demonstrate successful completion of doctoral-level coursework Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2026. Demonstrated potential for teaching and/or developing courses in the Health Science major (e.g., AI in Health, Population Health, Data Science, Health Informatics, and/or related courses) Demonstrated potential for conducting research, scholarly and creative activities Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first-generation students
