Police Cadet - SFPD (8274) role with the City and County of San Francisco. This program is for current and prospective college students and is not an application to become an academy recruit or an entry-level Police Officer. Base pay range:

$27.81/hr . The actual pay will be based on skills and experience. This position has a temporary exempt appointment and may not exceed 36 months. Compensation and Schedule

Compensation: $27.81 / hr Appointment Type: Temporary Exempt – appointed at the discretion of the Appointing Officer; duration not to exceed 36 months Work Location: SFPD Headquarters and various SFPD work locations Work Schedule: 20 hours per week Role and Responsibilities

The San Francisco Police Department Cadet program is designed to provide service to the City, the Police Department, and the community. Cadets are considered future leaders and may be prepared for careers in law enforcement, including positions such as Police Officer, Community Police Services Aide, or 911 Dispatcher. Under direct supervision, Cadets perform a variety of civilian field and office law enforcement duties in support of safety and non-safety personnel. Operate and monitor walk-through magnetometers and package scanners Assist with security and screening at Police Headquarters Interact with the public in a respectful and courteous manner Learn and apply applicable department rules, regulations, laws, policies, and methods Assist with various investigative units as needed Monitor walk-through metal detectors and video surveillance Search handbags, briefcases, backpacks and other containers Provide directions and information to visitors Provide first aid and CPR in emergencies Perform traffic and pedestrian control as directed Participate in crime prevention activities and community outreach Maintain records and retrieve information Attend weekend and/or evening training sessions Perform clerical duties such as ordering, receiving and distributing supplies, processing mail, preparing reports, indexing and filing May direct and control traffic Other related duties as required Police Cadets will: Learn the organization and functions of a Police Department Develop courteous communication skills with diverse communities Follow oral and written directions; understand rules and policies Walk or stand for extended periods Establish and maintain effective working relationships Qualifications and Eligibility

Possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent Current or future enrollment in an accredited college or university and taking at least 12 semester/18 quarter units with a minimum 2.0 GPA Possess a valid driver’s license Age: Applicants may apply at 17 years old but will not be appointed until 18. Verification of education/experience may be required at any point during recruitment. Falsifying information may result in disqualification. Background: A background investigation will be conducted prior to employment, which may include criminal history checks, drug/alcohol screening, and other employment history reviews.
