The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is conducting a national search for Chair of the Department of Thoracic Radiation Oncology. This leader will establish the vision for, guide the development of faculty in, and oversee all operations and functions in the department. Successful candidates will be accomplished academics and experienced leaders. The Department of Thoracic Radiation Oncology is part of the Division of Radiation Oncology, with the Chair reporting to the Division Head of Radiation Oncology. The Chair will lead a nationally recognized department and provide oversight for the multidisciplinary care of patients with lung, thymic, and esophageal cancers. The clinical facilities at MD Anderson incorporate advanced radiotherapy and imaging technologies, including photon therapy, proton therapy, and stereotactic radiotherapy. The department supports a comprehensive thoracic radiation therapy service at the Texas Medical Center and our Houston-area locations. The Thoracic Radiation Oncology Department is led by faculty physicians and scientists who have robust, extramurally funded research programs spanning basic, translational, and clinical research initiatives. The faculty serve as Principal Investigators in clinical trials at MD Anderson and across our Cancer Network. The Chair is responsible for providing leadership and full accountability for all department areas, including direct patient care; research (basic, translational, and clinical) within the department; faculty development and evaluation; educational program integration; finance and budgeting; and strategic planning aligned with institutional direction. The Chair fosters professional growth by ensuring career development opportunities and mentorship for faculty and trainees, and by promoting a positive work environment grounded in collaboration, collegiality, and wellness. The Chair will also represent the department, division, and institution in local, regional, state, and national matters. Qualifications 10 years of experience post clinical degree M.D. or equivalent degree Board certification in the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology Eligible for unrestricted Texas medical licensure Demonstrated clinical excellence and performance Administrative experience at a departmental or institutional level Proven track record of independent clinical or translational research and grant or protocol funding Contributions to education or training and mentoring of trainees, faculty, or staff Progressive leadership experience in an academic setting; preferred experience in an oncologic setting Ability to function effectively in a matrix organization with complex interdisciplinary relationships Embedded in the Texas Medical Center, MD Anderson is dedicated to ending cancer through a virtuous cycle of discovery, clinical impact, and community engagement.
