Overview

Bus Monitor. Hours: 2 to 5 hours daily. Hours are split between morning and afternoons. Under the direction of the Director of Special Education and Pupil Services, the Safety Aide monitors the well-being of student(s) with disabilities in the morning and afternoon at bus pick-up and drop-off locations and in buses while traveling to and from school. Responsibilities

Supervise and assist students at pick-up and drop-off locations Meet bus at designated locations Maintain order on bus with special education students Assist in lifting equipment and children with disabilities in and out of buses May perform routine first aid, may include children with seizures or respiratory disorders Enforce district policy and procedure maintaining discipline on buses and at pick-up locations Participate in staff development programs as directed Perform related duties as assigned Requirements

Ability to speak, read, and write English for all Whittier City School District positions. Environment

Outdoor, indoor and bus setting Physical

Strength and stamina sufficient to provide required assistance to pupils with disabilities; personality and character traits suited to the supervision and care of pupils with disabilities at bus pick-ups and drop-offs and while enroute. May be required to exert 20 to 75 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to perform assigned duties; sitting and standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; lifting heavy objects. Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced. Application Procedure
