Computer Systems Engineer On-site at the Manassas, VA facility Pay Estimated: $50-$60 Per Hour This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors, (geographical location, etc.) SUB-S is the Program Office responsible for combat systems integration on all classes of U.S. submarines and the manager of this Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) contract. Modern submarine combat system components are acquired by a diversified group of Government and private party (shipbuilder) organizations from a variety of electronics suppliers, and must be integrated to produce a fully functional, effective, and suitable multimission warship. Starting with the inception of the first open system networked combat system for the VIRGINIA Class SSN, SUB-S has outsourced SE&I to industry. SUB-S has expanded the need for this work scope to include all classes of U.S. submarines.
Responsibilities
Build, acquire, and test computer systems to meet specific performance and functionality requirements. Develop and execute test procedures. Benchmark and optimize computer systems using open-source tools (e.g., PassMark, Geekbench). Troubleshoot and debug systems to identify and resolve performance issues. Develop and maintain documentation, including design specifications, test results, and performance data. Perform software requirements analysis, design, development, and testing of software and tools (new or existing). Code, test, integrate, and document software solutions. Apply computer science, engineering, and mathematical principles to complex architectures. Research and analyze design proposals, market trends, technology advances, and specifications for feasibility. Participate in internal reviews of software components and systems. Define scope, schedule, and expectations for assigned work, often independently. Lead and resolve significant, diverse technical problems of broad scope and complexity. Collaborate with senior management, leadership, and sometimes external customers. Provide leadership and direction to junior engineers or teams. Build and maintain stable working relationships internally and externally.
Qualifications
U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related STEM field, plus 5+ years of experience, OR Master’s degree plus 3+ years of experience. Must have scripting and Linux experience. Experience with benchmarking tools (PassMark, Geekbench). Strong knowledge of hardware/software interactions. Ability to work independently and drive tasks to closure. Highly proficient in software engineering concepts, principles, and standards. Skilled in analyzing complex, diverse problems requiring innovative solutions. Expert in IDEs, version control, defect tracking, and scripting tools. Strong initiative, leadership, and accountability for complex assignments. Ability to define new processes/practices to improve team/company performance. Skilled in technical communication, impact reporting, and corrective actions. Experienced in applying software development lifecycle standards.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Linux OS (installation, configuration, troubleshooting). Familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). Knowledge of scripting (Python, Bash). Familiarity with PCIe, USB, NVMe, and industry-standard interfaces. Experience troubleshooting system, hardware, and firmware issues. Experience with Environmental Qualification Testing.
