About the Position: This is a career progression and management opportunity for current Sheriff's Lieutenants in the San Diego Sheriff's Department. The Sheriff's Captain is responsible for directing a major organizational unit, overseeing a division, and supervising subordinate supervisors. For more information about this job classification,

Sheriff Captains with a Peace Officer Standards and Training Management Certificate will be compensated at eleven percent (17%) above the base hourly wage rate.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Two years of experience as a Sheriff's Lieutenant;
AND, Successful completion of the California POST Management Course (Title II, Chapter 2, Section 1005c of the Administrative Code of California).
NOTE:
Applicants must meet the requirements of lower classification levels in this series. Positions are Peace Officers as defined in Section 830 of the California Penal Code, meeting employment standards set by POST, California Government Code, and STC. Applicants must be 21 years old by appointment, possess a valid POST Proof of Eligibility, and be able to carry a firearm throughout employment.
