The Cloud System Engineer (AWS) will lead the evaluation, remediation, and modernization of our AWS environment. This role requires strong expertise in AWS architecture, identity and access management, cloud security, and automation, along with the ability to collaborate effectively across IT and business stakeholders. The engineer will be responsible for assessing the current environment, aligning it with AWS best practices, providing recommendations, and driving continuous improvements. In addition, the role includes supporting workload migrations between AWS, other cloud providers, and datacenters, ensuring seamless transitions and optimized performance. Responsibilities
Evaluate the current AWS environment to identify gaps in security, governance, performance, and cost optimization; provide actionable recommendations to align with best practices. Design, deploy, and maintain scalable AWS solutions across compute, storage, and networking services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS/EKS, VPC). Administer AWS accounts and organizations, implementing strong identity and access management (IAM, SSO, Control Tower) to ensure secure multi-account operations. Collaborate with IT teams and stakeholders to modernize workloads, implement cloud-native designs, and ensure compliance with enterprise and industry standards. Plan and execute workload migrations between AWS and other cloud providers and datacenters, including design, testing, and validation of migrated applications. Support the implementation and management of monitoring, logging, and alerting strategies (CloudWatch, CloudTrail, third-party integrations) to maintain visibility and reliability. Apply cost optimization practices, including tagging strategies, Savings Plans/Reserved Instances, and governance policies. Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Puppet, CloudFormation) to automate deployment and configuration management. Collaborate with the Information Security team to implement guardrails, ensure regulatory compliance, and stay aligned with cybersecurity best practices for cloud. Document system configurations, standards, and procedures to support operations, knowledge sharing, and governance. Provide best practices, architectural guidance, and governance standards for all AWS solutions, including AI/ML services and enterprise solutions, ensuring secure, scalable, and cost-optimized deployments. Provide technical leadership for future projects, mentor stakeholders on AWS usage, and present findings to technical and executive audiences. Provide continuous improvement, documentation, and training on AWS environment and its services. Other duties as assigned. Proficiency in AWS core services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS/EKS, VPC). Strong understanding of IAM, AWS Organizations, and multi-account governance. Skilled in cloud security, monitoring, and cost optimization. Proficiency with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation). Experience with automation, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines. Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for cloud workloads. Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to lead projects independently, take ownership, and provide direction. Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5–7+ years of experience supporting enterprise AWS environments. Experience with cloud workload migrations, including AWS to Azure. AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect – Professional or DevOps Engineer strongly preferred. Azure Administrator or Solutions Architect certification a plus. Experience with AWS GovCloud environments a strong plus. Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, or FedRAMP. Hands-on experience with container orchestration (EKS, AKS) and serverless. Seniority level
