Job Title: Graduate & Professional Admission Counselor
Department: Graduate Admission
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to (Position Title): Associate Director, Graduate & Professional Admission
Work Schedule: 35 hours/week; 12 months/year
Union: SEIU Local 500
Grade Level: 5
Compensation Range: $41,500 - $51,800 annually
General purpose:
Support graduate recruitment, outreach, and admission activities from inquiry through enrollment.
*Eligible for Hybrid Work Arrangement after 90 day Introductory period
Summary of Essential Functions:
The Graduate & Professional Admission Counselor plays a critical role in the recruitment and enrollment of graduate students across MICA’s graduate programs. The Counselor provides high-touch outreach and personalized counseling to prospective students, collaborates with faculty on application review logistics, and supports critical aspects of the application and enrollment process. The position is highly student-facing and requires strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Counsel prospective graduate students on MICA’s programs, application requirements, and enrollment process
Represent MICA at virtual and in-person graduate recruitment events
Coordinate interviews and application materials for assigned graduate programs
Collaborate with faculty and staff on applicant review and decision workflows
Support inquiry management, communications, and data systems throughout the admissions cycle
Serve as a first point of contact for prospective students via email, phone, webchat, and 1:1 Zoom appointments
Serve as campus representative for prospective students, including leading campus tours, arranging visit opportunities, and collaborating with faculty for program visits
Provide personalized counseling to prospective and admitted students about programs, portfolios, financial aid basics, and application materials
Represent MICA at recruitment events, portfolio days, and information sessions (some travel required)
Conduct outreach campaigns to engage new inquiries and encourage application completion
Manage assigned graduate programs through the admissions process, including application review coordination, interview scheduling, and faculty follow-up
Support faculty with technical training and dashboards used during the review process
Prepare and send decision letters, admission packets, and scholarship notifications for assigned programs
Assist with event planning and execution for prospective and admitted student events
Participate in regular team meetings, professional development, and cross-departmental collaboration
Contribute to the continuous improvement of communications, systems, and admissions practices
Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, MFA or MA degree preferred
1–3 years of relevant experience in higher education, counseling, admissions, or customer service
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and provide individualized support
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Comfortable learning and using data systems and CRMs
Preferred Qualifications
MFA or MA in art, design, or related field
Familiarity with graduate art and design education
Experience working with diverse populations, including international students
Knowledge of marketing, recruitment, or enrollment practices
Proficiency with Airtable, Slate, or other CRM tools
MICA graduate or alumnus of another creative graduate program

Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
Regional travel up to 20% of the time (including overnight travel)
Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive institutional vehicles
