In 2025, Blackstone established Brio Real Estate (Brio) as a portfolio company focused on real estate credit. Brio is a specialized global commercial real estate asset services platform that manages and supports Blackstone’s Real Estate Debt Strategies business (BREDS) across the globe. BREDS has more than $76 billion in investor capital across high yield / opportunistic real estate credit funds, a publicly traded Mortgage REIT, CMBS securities and insurance capital. Brio provides critical infrastructure and capabilities for BREDS to allow for effective investments and management of its global portfolio.
Job Summary
The Transactions Counsel will primarily provide day-to-day legal support to transactional deal teams, including overseeing and managing key aspects of the deal process and document negotiation in connection with debt investment originations, secondary capital markets transactions and loan servicing and administration. This role will forge substantive relationships throughout Brio and Blackstone, as well as with external stakeholders including borrowers, outside counsel and the brokerage community. The person must possess excellent business judgment, ability to identify and communicate risk clearly, and ability to propose creative solutions to maintain Blackstone and Brio’s reputation. The person will help administer department and company initiatives and assist in other corporate, operational and functional matters as needed.
What You Will Do
Deliver high quality and clear legal guidance as part of a legal team; ensure Blackstone’s legal priorities are addressed.
Partner with investment and business professionals to explain and evaluate legal risks of transactions.
Train and develop portfolio company deal teams on legal issues at investment and organizational levels.
Create and implement policies and procedures; ensure governance, risk, and compliance programs adherence.
Negotiate, write, review, catalog, and execute business agreements and other legal agreements.
Supervise outside counsel, as needed, and manage quality and cost of outside legal representation.
What You Should Have
Juris Doctorate (JD)
Active license to practice in Texas
Active license to practice in New York is a plus
Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience representing institutional clients; in-house experience preferred
Resourceful self-starter with initiative
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Exceptional attention to detail
Team player who thrives and can lead in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment
Strong organizational and project management skills
Flexibility to adapt to evolving business strategies
Adept at navigating and simplifying complex legal matters
Contract review and negotiation experience
Experience in various commercial matters (transactions, leases, financings, etc.)
